    Reptile Expo.

I urge you to be cautious about how quickly you jump in. It's easy to build a collection, a lot harder to maintain it. Just over 2 years ago I had to get out of the hobby because I was overwhelmed and became a bit jaded by how much work maintaining a collection could be (I had well over 100).

    Most Active Species

There is a bit of a catch that comes along with this question. A spider without ideal conditions will move more (i.e. G.rosea with too damp of substrate). I would probably rephrase the question as "which spiders are most visible" as I'm not sure I would want my T to be pacing around.

    New T!

What do you mean rescue? That looks like a healthy G. rosea, not a product of squalor.

To name or not to name? That is the question!

I do not name my tarantulas... that said, we will be naming 2. My kids have recently been begging me to get some spiders as I've been on a2 year absence from the hobby. We picked up 3 this weekend, one for each of them and one for myself. Mine won't be named but theirs will be. They need to...

Advice Needed for Brachy Boehmei Spiderling

It will be perfectly fine. As well... enjoy the little buggers. Mine is by far the most spastic T I have right now. Mine is a 3.5" Female and she is CRAZY! If I bump her cage she RUNS, if I look at her wrong she flicks hairs... Enjoy!

    30 gallon communal?

I second H.incei.... alternatively you could put it on end and do a pokie communal, just be careful.

    Quantity vs Quality

I had about 50 at one time, it became a chore for me. I have 2 small kids and a demanding career that requires frequent travel. I finally came to the conclusion that I do not have time for myself let alone my spiders. I've down sized to 17 and will still downsize at least another 4. I'm...

    P. cambridgei eggsac...problem!

If there is anything 'dead' in there it will mold and take anything attached with it. I had that happen with a couple Avics when i bred them. Regardless, I don't know what else I would suggest. Any idea how long they molt into 2nd instar?

My Versicolor has made a huge egg but...

how long have you had her? was she wild caught? if you haven't had her long and she was wild caught the sack could be viable.

Can They Be Saved?? Please help.

1st they don't look that bad... 2nd getting an egg sack for free is a blessing... Look up tutorials on creating an incubator. You could always sew up where you opened it and return it to the mother but you would risk her eating it. But if you don't want the hassle of incubating then you...

what species lay the most eggs?

Without question... The people who jump in full-tilt do not remain in the hobby long. When it becomes more of a job (which it will), it wont be fun and you will quit... Guaranteed. At my height I had almost 200 Ts, it was hours of work.. Now I'm down to 17.

    Unexpected Wow Factor

I would say I've purchased T's expecting that wow factor and ended up being disappointed... Specifically, I had a bunch of Pokies, expecting them to be the end all/be all for me in regards to T's. I quickly found that despite their gorgeous looks many of them are so reclusive and skittish it's...

    Heatmat questions!

I would say you want to keep them 70F or above, IMO <70 is just too cold and they will be sluggish, and may not eat. I have an 8" LP that is kept at room temp, around 70-71, and she doesn't do a whole lot, how ever, when it jumps to 75-80 she actively hunts. If you're going to do a heat...

    Suicidal Spider!

It looks like you have a light on her. I'm guessing that she's going up that high because it's warm. you might evaluate your method of heating. If it's cold in your room then you should consider slapping a heat mat on the side of the enclosure.

    Damn, crickets are cheap.

I certainly wouldn't start a dubia colony for 1 B.smithi, more hassle than it's worth. Regardless, they are a FAR superior food item. My small brachys love little nymphs though. Now if the OP had one of each brachy (wink wink) that would merit a colony.

    T. Stirmi rescue - need some advice

I think you got a killer deal. Make sure it's properly hydrated and that it's diet is more favourable and you're going to have a nice trophy T... While she's showing her wear I think you're "bi-winning".

How to heat a T room

I wouldn't worry about an entire room at this point. Given your collection size I would recommend getting a 'wardrobe' and use either an IR bulb or your heat tape. This is what I have (I had 40+ in there for a while), and I heat with a heat bulb:

megaphobema robustum dead, unusual material in abdomen.

I'm thinking that it was bunged up and what you see is poo that ruptured into the abdominal cavity... I could be wrong though. Alternatively, you should if you haven't already, get a slide of the substance and check it out under a microscope. I'd be interested to know if it were a nematode...

New and wanting to start out right.

Depending on where you are, I can only assume you mention 'northern desert' meaning western Canada, there are a number of shows coming up out there. You would be better off purchasing in person as it will be some time before the weather won't be of concern. Join us in the sub-forum!!!

Bad Theraphosa molt :( any advice (pics)

Save yourself some effort... get a whole bunch of inverts, throw in a blender, mix, then pour contents into ice cube trays and freeze. This will make things more manageable for you, since you have a very long road ahead of yourself. I used to do this for my saltwater tank... Then thaw one cube...
