    Molting emergency

Update: She's doing well and a scab has formed nicely over the wound after a dab of flour. Should I apply the nail hardener also once the scabbing is complete or is that not necessary?

    Molting emergency

my lp molted today and part of her abdomen split or did not grow right. She's doing fine, no sign of stress, but what precautionary measures can I take? And will this just scab and grow back or is this more dire?

    Lp moulting/feeding is this normal?

Mine took a little over two weeks before she ate. Before she shed she didn't eat for a month. She's at 6 inches now and eating well.

    Unusual looking spider needs ID

These guys are pretty cool. I tried to keep one in captivity, but it didn't work out so I let her go. I think they need the wide open spaces to feel really comfortable.

    What have we here?

Looks like a Rabid Wolf spider to me. A very nice specimen indeed! Its definitely not a grass spider. Their eyes are smaller and their legs are thinner and they are usually a darker shade of brown. Plus they have longer spinnerettes for web weaving.

    A tarantula pet peeve...

When ever some asks silly questions like that, I act like I'm the normal one and they're crazy. Usually I tell them Tarantulas are just like hamsters with fangs only prettier.

Big Spider I encountered while out fishing

I think it's d. tenebrosus. If you look real close on the first photo she has chevron markings on the abdomen. They shrink up after she lays her eggs but get more pronounced once she fattens up. There was a massive outbreak of these a few years ago at a park I hike through. There had to have...
