    School presentation with Tarantulas?

Presentations can be very rewarding. I did educational presentations at my kids' grade school for ten years. It was a blast. Of course I was mostly dealing with 5-6 year-olds. And teachers. The grown ups were the hard sells. ;) Helpful tips and visual aids: A nice clear container, for...

    Slings feed off water?

They can drink from water droplets misted on the wall, yes, but they need food as well. For the really tiny ones, if I can't find pinhead crickets, I cut up little meal worms, or offer a cricket "drumstick" (large back leg). A word of warning about water and tiny slings. I once had a C...

    Giant African Millipedes

You might ask a moderator to move this to the myriapods forum. That is where you will find the millipede and centipede keepers, and lots of good information. :) I don't know where khil got their information, but millipedes are not dangerous to handle.

    The T Keepers

:) Thank you, everyone. I'm afraid I don't have anywhere near enough cartoons for a book yet. Maybe next year I can pull together a calendar. But I do have a little something. Since it tis the season, and all that. I spent the better part of the day trying to figure out how to use...

Why it's important to keep your cool

{D Glad I'm not the only one who has been startled by my A metallica. Mine decided she didn't want to be rehoused, and bolted into my hair. Then went for a stroll across my face while I sent my daughter to get one of her brothers for help. My oldest boy wouldn't get out of bed. The...

looking for a bug for my son..please help me choose one

Another vote for Hissing Cockroach. My kids love them. Giant millipedes are also very cool for the little ones, too. :)

    The T Keepers

Thank you. :D Ok, one more. In honor of my friend Tim Benzedrine who helped me get my good humor back after a rotten day. :D (Just hoping he doesn't own a pair of smiley face boxer shorts that might make him misconstrue my good intentions)

anyone with a B. Smithi please answer!

Reducing ventilation in combination with keeping the substrate dry shouldn't produce any mold problems. It just helps hold the humidity produced by the water dish. Where as a tank with a fully screened open top wouldn't hold any humidity for very long, even if you soak the tank. Where I...

    Problematic Widow

Thanks, Moltar. I like that thimble idea. :) Thank you. :) Salamander- Yeah, I was thinking that too. Sooner or later she would find her way to the top.

    Problematic Widow

I suggested a gallon glass jar, but they wanted me to just alter the container the spider was in. They were keeping her in a bathroom, so I think there might be some storage issues that made the deli cup more desirable.

I think Tarantulas can be tammed.

*sigh* :( Train wreck? This thread has come completely off the tracks. Oh how I miss our own Jolly Green Nadkicker. Code Monkey, where art thou? Blast from the past. For those who are interested, this thread has actual hard science in it...

    Problematic Widow

Thank you. :) I've seen a few of the setups with the lid on the bottom, but I was never comfortable with them. With my luck the lid would stick, or I'd sneeze, and I'd end up with a handful of spider. Thanks. :) The brass fastener at the point of the plastic door stays in place. I just...

    Problematic Widow

A couple of friend's of mine found a Western Black Widow, Latrodectus hesperus, and caught her in a deli cup sized container. They wanted to keep her, but being that she is indeed a widow, they didn't want to risk coming in contact with her. Of course she made her web on the lid of the...

    c.faciatum growth rate?

I raised a C. fasciatum from 3/4" spiderling, to mature male in two years. But at that time I was "power feeding". He got a cricket three times a week, and the house was fairly warm - 70*-72* in winter, 75* or higher during summer)

    golden red rump

She's my only B. albiceps, though I am looking after a subadult male on loan from a friend. So I can't tell you anything on growth rate since she was mature when I got her. I don't handle, due to sensitivity to the urticating hairs, but she would probably be fine with it. She is very...

    golden red rump

I believe it was changed from Brachypelma ruhnaui back to Brachypelma albiceps. :) My girl is very mellow. Doesn't flick hair. She's pretty much a pet rock.

    Jumper With A Heart

We started calling her Valentine. :D I wonder what the odds are she could have offspring with that heart? It would be cool to see.

    Jumper With A Heart

Thanks. :) I think she is, too. The last time I let the kids keep one that was that fat, she had a double clutch of eggs. Of course they kind of forgot to take them outside before they started to disperse, and we ended up with a whole lot of jumpers around the house. {D
