Color isn't necessarily the best determining factor in this instance...
The T may have faded some since it molted, plus many species are sexually dichromatic and may vary.
It seems that I recall reading or hearing something a while back to the effect that smoking around T's can lead to difficult or problematic molts... someone else may remember more on this. :?
good God-- those bugs would be eating better than me!
Any feeder cricket of mine that can't get by on the slice of apple or potato that I happen to have already in the 'frigde at the time will have to see himself to that great egg carton in the sky before I'd go thru that much trouble...
I used to have a recurring nightmare about one of our largest T blondis getting lose on the floor and biting me on the foot. In each dream, I would feel the bite, and then feel myself black out (which was a little strange because until recently, I had never been unconscious before)...
I wouldn't recommend prodding at your rose hair for the amusement of your friends. This can not only stress the animal, I would think that it will also make her more likely to strike at you.
I handle many of my rose hairs regularly, but this is limited to opening the enclosure and allowing...
If your rose is spending alot of time on the roof of the enclosure, she may have a problem with the substrate that she's on... As for not eating, I wouldn't worry about that. Roses can go for weeks (if not months) without eating with no harm done. They are very seasonal creatures.
As for...
MSD and proud of it!
At my office, I've been dubbed the "spider pimp" for getting one of my co-workers into the hobby with one conveniently placed A. seemani. His collection has grown to 6 or 7 little eight-legged freaks since then...
As for my own collection... :8o I haven't taken an...
Buy Schultz!
The Schultz' book is a great resource for T keepers...
I believe it's called "The Tarantula Keepers Guide" (correct me if I'm wrong, guys...)-- white book, picture of a B. smithi (Mexican Red Knee) on the cover... very in depth study on everything you need to know about a T...
If I had a nickel for every time...
I've got a turn on this thread for ya...
How many times have any of you gone into a local pet shop, witnessed a dead-for-days T drying up in the corner with its legs folded up beneath it, told the employee that it was dead only to be informed by him...
icky poo
I was handling my Avic avic for the first time a few weeks ago, when after about 5 minutes of bliss, my husband suddenly announced, "Here it comes." Before I could say, "What?" she had launched a little present right into my wedding ring... :8o
I haven't had too many problems with feeding my larger T. blondi and apophysis pinkies, etc. Usually, they have one or two spots in the enclosure where they will consitantly leave the remaining pinky blob (which resembles a wet cotton ball or wad of gum) once they're done, and I'm able to go in...
One of our T. blondi ate what could only be described as a whole family of pinkies (plus one small adult) when we first brought her home. She was wild caught and a little ragged looking, so we fed her as much as she could eat.
As far as I know (and don't quote me on this), it's nearly...
