the body shame of this one very much reminds me of our local similar graound beetle Mouhotia sp. - but much more colorful than this plainly black one. Mouhotia batesi is even considered a protected species in Thailand. although there are other 2-3 sp. / ssp.
that's male Eupatorus gracilicornis, famous "5 horned beetle" (native to SE Asia - with different subspecies), we have it in Thailand. :)
yes, it grows pretty large, some specimens up to 90mm. up North near Laos border a cousin of my wife often gets plenty of them from his local hill tribe...
