I recently posted a video of one of these that was in my yard here in FLA. There are several throughout my yard and she was the largest of the group. She was approximately 4 inches but not quite as big as the one in the earlier photo would appear. The ones in the yard all appear to have webs...
Can anyone ID this spider I found outside. She was carrying this egg sac and was very fast. We have lots of wolf spiders around here but this one doesn't appear to be the same as those. Recluse? (it had all eight legs but a couple fell off)
Thanks.
Thanks
Thanks for the compliments. I too enjoy watching this girl. Not knowing much about true spiders I was wondering if anyone could provide a confirmation that the female would indeed be cohabitating with the various males (there are at least 3 in the direct vicinity), or whether these could...
Alright, after considering this move for probably months I've decided to add my photo to this thread. I too, like Wayne, am generally very reluctant to be photo'd. But apparently I was a little more laid back in Key West over New Years and the other was taken about a month ago for a specific event.
Here's an aricle for you. (will only be up for a week or two)

I know Candice and have bought T's from her in the past. She came out to a gathering of T keepers in WI about 2 years ago. I wouldn't hesitate to order from her.
Absolutely
They all have names and each cage is labled with the scientific name as well as their "personal" name. I have 50+ and have to name them all shortly after getting them. Generally there is some distinguishing characteristic that leads to their name.
I must warn you though that once...
So I got my shipment of crickets in today and decided to speed things up I'd open up the containers on some of my girls ahead of time. That way when I came through with the container of bugs I could just toss in a handfull and move on. Since most of my girls just sit around for hours on end I...
Alright I must turn to the learned brethren for their wisdom. Where's the best place to obtain clear deli cups, preferably pre-punched, though with very small holes? I must get several hundred and a shop near me had some that worked awesomely and I will ask their source, but I suspect the owner...
Though I have not read either John's or Todd's pages on breeding loans in some time I have worked with both of them on loans and discussed the common 50/50 process. IMHO the owner of the female should be responsible for the shipping costs associated with sending the male. The reason for this is...
At least if she lays a sac there might be some explanation. I went and checked on my H. lividum the other day and she was sitting and guarding a sac. And the strangest part about it is that I've had here since '01 and she hasn't had a male around since then. She laid a sac in early '02 but it...
They must've come from the same sac
I feel ya on your Chaco. Mine was doing the same thing. Evil as hell. Where'd you get yours? Mine is a wild caught female that I've had for a year or so. I thought I was the only one who had a supposedly docile Chaco that was more hell spawn that sweetness.
To any folks in the Minneapolis / western WI area.
We are planning another T party and want to include as many folks as possible. If you've been lurking and haven't been contacted by others in the area, e-mail me so I can add you to the group list and keep you updated with area events...
