Hey everyone...
For anyone who still remembers, cares, or is interested, the Spider Diaries have just been updated with the whole sorry tale of why they haven't been there for a while...
:wall:
On the plus side, they're back, but the first new installment isn't quite the plethora of...
Just a thought...
The other thing to say might be...
If they are not mites, and there aren't loads of em... is there actually any sign that they are causing problems or annoyance to your T's ? Would it be worth removing them by hand whenever you see them, if there aren't that many ?
Yeah yeah - that's what I'd do... most spiders can do without water for far longer than mites can... but not all of them - wouldn't try it with an avic, for example...
Wow - HC... I remain slightly thankful that shooting isn't an option here in the UK, so fortunately I have that happy decision removed from me...
I agree with you in principal - it might be humane to take him outside, give him a last hour of fresh air and wandering (if he can manage it), and...
Thanks, Mina - I will do. He is actually looking better than he was this morning now he has made it to his water bowl, so you may well be spot on there...
He did eat, as recently as 2 days ago, but there was no mistaking that all legs under thing today. He was also very very sluggish, which...
Wow... 2 seriously different ideas there...
I fear that were I to handle him now, after never having done so before, it would probably cause him more stress than just leaving him sitting quietly...
Likewise - I can't bring myself to freeze him either - I remain convinced that is a deeply...
I have an L.striatus mature male that really is on his last legs. He is dying, and whilst still feebly trying to drink, and move about, his legs default to the dreaded curl whenever he isn't actively trying to push them out...
Does anybody have any suggestions for what I can do to make his...

Evening, Spider-loons...
Your new-look spider-diaries has been updated with another video, so those of you interested in very close-up GBB's, webbing, striking, spinnerets, and fangs, and lots of crickets mysteriously ALL called Alan, then be my guest and feel free to click...
Yes. Absolutely. Thats where mine goes if she ever escapes. If I lived alone, I'd let her continue to make a web up there, but feeding would be tricky, and the landlord might not be so keen. And that's quite without the danger of her falling...
Evening, spider-enthusiasts...
Thought I'd pop in and let you all know that TSD have produced a new video...
This one's a bit of a mixed bag. Lots of spiders, doing what spiders do best, and a reasonable catalogue of the night's events...
Not only that, but Cinematic Orchestra have got a...
a decent care sheet is below...
A.genic care sheet
I wouldn't handle them when bigger - there's urticating hairs, and then there are genic hairs, which humans (or certainly THIS human) become more sensitive to each time I am exposed to them...
Some of the better ones to emerge from the diaries as of late...
Aphonopelma seemanni - AF
Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens - Sub-adult
Poecilotheria fasciata - MM
Avicularia versicolor - Sub-adult
Chromatopelma again, eating in the shadows...
Lasiodora...
Evening, spider-watchers...
In an uncharacteristically edit-heavy, and violence-glorifying moment, TSD is (sort of) proud to bring you a look at the business ends of some rather lovely spiders, and the general ends of some rather hapless prey.
Likewise, there'll be no relaxing jazz...
He moulted 2 weeks ago... I really wish I didn't live in a country where there are about 2 other keepers. obviously, I exaggerate, but I've been looking for male genics for about a year now, and nothing. Likewise, my pleadings for a female P.fasciata have fallen on largely deaf ears, and still...
Dammit, you're right. :) There are definitely hooks, though palps still look like they always did. As always, he's not showing me the underside of them, but on reflection, they are looking a bit more club-like.
Well how rubbish is that ? I got an L.striatus in the first place because I had read...
Mature male ?? Hmmm.
Is he a mature male ? I bloody hope not - he's only tiny - maybe 3" tops in leg span ? And his front palps are normal. Don't these guys usually reach at least 6" ? And at 8th instar, I'd imagine he has at least a couple more to go before his love bits are working properly...
Is he exhibiting any stress behaviour ? If he was, I'd be tempted to squash him. Far quicker and kinder than refrigeration. If he's not in a constant state of discomfort, and I sincerely hope he isn't, then I wish him luck in his next moult...
Just HOW MUCH of a broken spider can a moult...
