Above is a partial truth. The pedipalps will swell some = pre sub adult male, Second stage palps swell to round balls = sub adult male, Third stage palps stay swollen and darken and complete transition to mature male.
I find it very alarming that some are willing to crucify a persons name over absolutely nothing. As been said above by folks with a tad bit of experience, yes this can be considered a acceptable practice at that size. I do agree with that small a number, I would of packed in straws or 7 dram...
Getting haired brings a new set of problems.
After wetting yourself! Really just prepare as stated above, and if one gets in remove cloths carefully but quickly. I exercise great caution to avoid this as my wife isn't helping.
I went thru the same thing when I had a new furnace thermostat installed. It just happened to be in my critter room. Explaining 125 T's, 30 + crested geckos and 4 bins of 6k + crickets, it's fun just to watch there face.
To the OP: It's called being a proactive pet keeper. Be willing to do some of the foot work instead of sitting on your can and asking people to do it for you. Example: I also keep crested geckos, there was a slight problem spent almost 2 hrs researching the net to find a solution. After that I...
With this understanding of tarantulas my reply would be that your not ready to own any. Get a good idea of what your getting into, so as to avoid major problems early on.
Correct not a typo. I had a room dedicated to T's, and another for my reptile projects. Then came child number 3 and the wife " Suggested" that it had to go. Didn't step into a reptile show for 14 years. Now that child is a Senior in High School. And I'm back in the hobby.
At one point in my younger years 3,000 + was a good collection. These days a more modest 150 +- works well, but still looking for those few must haves.
You have answered your own question. Your mantis is either Full(not interested) or a molt on the way. I breed this species and find them very interesting. Good Luck with yours.
When I hatched mine I pulled the sacs at 30-35 days. Two of the sacs were ewls and the 3 turned a few days later. My temp was around 73-75 and 60% humidity. Good Luck
So you are saying that you put food in with your T 2 days after molting. If indeed there is a bald spot it's from trying to defend itself from the food that it is not ready to eat. I wait at least a 11/2 weeks to be safe before offering food after molting and longer with my bigger T's.
As was said earlier " Leave her alone", she is only a few days post molt. Give her a couple weeks to recover and get it back together, your prying and bothering is just added stress your T don't need.
