I worked with my CB tokay and it is very tame. I can pick it up at will, it has never tried to bite. Wild caught are a different story, they are nasty. :wicked:
Its a yellow rat and they aren't as good of a pet as red rat snakes in my opinion. I would let that snake go and get a CB red rat in a designer variety. If you are going to spend $ feeding it, get something that will make a better pet. JMO.
It really depends what they looked like when they were alive. Their legs are sometimes curled and after awhile they get stiff. The trick is to eat them before the ants do.
The least desireable species list so far:
1. Cobalt Blue
2. P. metallica
3. OBT
Two inexpensive, one expensive. :) :) ;P
Two with behavior problems, one less defensive. :wicked: :wicked:
Two blue, one orange.
Temperature plays a roll in growth rates as well as feeding frequency and amount. The real health issue might be if you feed too much there may be live prey in with your T when they are molting. I've had Ts with huge abdomens that have had no trouble molting, but falling even from its own...
I have never been bitten by a T and I hope to keep it that way. However, I have been bitten by boas on the legs and arms and pinched by scorpions on my fingers. :wicked:
Dan,
Well stated. According to the results of the poll to this point, you are not alone in this opinion. I personally think P. metallica is beautiful, but I'm not a fan of keeping pokies in general.
Actually you miss read my intention. People thinking they are overrated due to price is different than saying people can't afford them.
Anytime you make generalizations there are exceptions. At the time of my post most that listed G. pulchra as overrated stated they didn't own that species...
Venus flytraps, pitcher plants, and sundews are great at getting rid of left over crickets and unwanted slings. ;)
I use plastic plants, I find they have a low light requirement. :D
A. versicolor males look the same as females in terms of coloration. Males are smaller in relative abdomen size and overall size. I think yours is a male.
Least popular so far:
1. Cobalt Blue
2. P. metallica
3. GBB
Cobalt Blue aren't very expensive, so they are unpopular soley due to their behavior. P. metallica and GBB seem to be considered overrated because of their price.
Grammostola pulchra seems to be unpopular among people that...
Location, Location, Location
Zelli,
Nice pix and link. I had never heard of Grammostola sp. 'North'.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Grammostola rosea is found in central Chile, and Grammostola sp. 'Red Concepcion' is the southern most species of T in Chile.
Keep it on the dry side!
Avicularia versicolor does not need it as humid as most people think. In fact most deaths of A. versicolor slings are caused by too humid conditions. I have had excellent success keeping A. versicolor slings in vials at low humidity...yes on the dry side! I dampen the...
Grammostola rosea is underrated in my opinion. If they were rare a T that size, that docile, that bullet proof, and with a pink cephalothorax would be $300 instead of $3. JMO. :D
