I live in an old house in MA, so the temperatures drop to the low 40's (yikes) inside the house at night....I've used the mini Zoo Med intended for 5 gal KK's with success. My T usually snuggles against the wall where the pad is located. They will grow a little more slowly, and may refuse food...
I would suggest removing the heat lamp and if you must have it, put the heat pad on the side of the tank, not on the bottom. If the tank gets too hot and the T's try to burrow, they'll end up sitting right on top of the heat pad, which could result in a dead T! Congrats on your new purchases...
He looks like he's just pouting/stressed out or just awkwardly doing some T yoga against the glass in the last photo. Also, I'd get that toilet paper tube out of there; it will quickly turn into a breeding ground for mold and other unpleasantness!
Coco Fiber
If you decided to go with the coco fiber, you can get it easily at pet stores like Petco or Petsmart that have a reptile department. It's usually around $5 for a compressed brick, which will definitely be enough for your one enclosure, or a loose bag will run about $8.
Love is not the issue
I don't think it is necessarily fair to say that a love for an animal such as a dog is or should be different than the love for a tarantula or other invert. But the issue here is that unfortunately, we don't know enough about them to be able to accurately diagnose...
DDaake, after a bit of research on T keeping on the mother's part, would you be able/willing to let mother and daughter babysit one of your docile T's for a few weeks with your supervision? This would allow them to learn what they're in for without having to take the plunge in purchasing...
Please stop responding to posts with your "advice." I'm sure the OP knows this is not correct information, but if gave this information to someone who was new to keeping tarantulas (as I believe you are) it could end badly for the owner and the T.
You should never have to "force" your T to...
I have these:

It costs about $8.50 for a pair of 12 inch tweezers, and that includes shipping!
I'd definitely give her more time to find/munch the crickets, especially in her new home! I usually will put 2-3 in with my B. emilia in the afternoon. She'll munch one up almost immediately, but ignore the others until later in the evening.....I think she likes to eat in the dark :)
Do take...
I'm quite partial to mice! Get a pair of females though, the smell is much less significant than the males. If you get a silent wheel for their cage, they make virtually no noise, and their little tank can be shoved quickly under a bed or in a closet during room checks. :)
I've keep mice...
