Great thread btw!
My T's do the water dish dance too.
IMHO, much of the water dish trashings/wickings/mounds, etc, resulted from wild nocturnal behaviors.
Seems at night, a couple of my T's become very active, sometimes falling off the top from their upsidedown positions, crashing to the...
DH: Sounds like you've got some solid experience with the gooty(s). and.. The popular consensus here seems to be "male".
Thanks all above for your help despite my fuzzy photos.
Good points. I share your opinion about juveniles. :)
"He's" (is the jury in on this yet:? ) about 2.5" diameter legspan.
Specimen sitings and pics i've seen of the P.Metalicas often have small/deflated-looking abdomens. This one's real plump right?
Maybe a teeny teeny chance to be female??
More opinions? Please.
Your best bet is to keep the T separate while you treat the tank. NO CHEMICALS WHATSOEVER !
Fruit flies have a super short lifespan (sometimes just hours), however if you're not getting rid of them, they are probably reproducing. You may be better off sealing the tank air tight with seranwrap...
Roaches? Ok.
I'm burnt on the crickets. Sometimes they're hearty. Sometimes they die by the bunches...all black and smelly.
After reading this thread, i'm going to try the roaches.
Which species is best all around?
Discoids and Hissers?
Any tips on keeping them happy and chubby?
...have been using this for my b. smithi and giant whiteknee.
..the more webbing they do....the more they seem to like it. The webbing coagulates the granules. It stays nice and dry. I like it.
I use it for the crickets too.
Thanks Pyst.
This should keep me busy for a while. Plenty "o" pics there.
I'm leaning towards the aluminum cage with the double doors in front. Looks neat and easy to deal with.
Those plexiglass units look good too, but all the holes are a little distracting to me.
Setups
Nice!
I like the 360º viewing. Also, it's cool that the webbing is not inside a tube or hollowed out object.
Your pics are a great help...helping me to think this through.
I want it to look good, but to also have good access for cleaning, feeding etc.
Any more pics of arboreal...
...am about to aquire my first arboreal T.
I've seen some terreria that look great, but they all have similar attributes such as plants and a tunnel-like structure mounted to the side.
...hoping to see more imaginitive setups.
Anyone got any kewl pics of such setups?
I recently aquired a hatchling whiteknee.
Please excuse me for referring to it as "it". [Don't know the sex yet..."it's" too small]
So far,...THIS IS ONE WICKED SPIDER !
IT'LL CHASE DOWN ANYTHING IN THE TANK, EATS AS MUCH AS I CAN FEED IT TOO. However, it also has some interesting behaviors...
Low Temps?
My smithi is a young adult.
She eats poorly. Actually, she eats best in the summer months, then goes back to a crappy appetite. It's kinda frustrating because I had a smithi years ago that ate like a horse...all throughout the year.
Then again, back then, that smithi and I lived in...
I think i'm very confident now, keeping and caring for my B.smithi.
What would be the next species to get? :?
It's got to big real nice to look at and easy temperment.
I like the larger types, but i'd settle for "whatever" if it were real nice.
What do you-all think about the type and...
