search the boards - there are good instructions available.
And never hesitate to ask here - no such thing as dumb question... only wrong assumptions. Anyone getting impatient with beginner questions on T's has other problems - worry about the spider first.
You will come to love your rosie I'll...
fast - yes - but short duration.
when working with them I used to have a large space then tank inside large container... so any runaway had to go somewhere in the bigger one and could be caught when winded.... worked on all but almost foiled by a lightning fast Usumbara... got rid of that one...
different schedules for different spiders.... but generally when it needs it!
some of my T's make more of a mess with wet things, waste material, and dead cricket bits. If the tank starts to smell that is another good sign.
The better you maintain it, the longer it will go before needing...
my avics are the only ones I am reasonably sure each time they want to eat... because they will leave the comfort of home.
They can stay "indoors" for weeks on end - be sure water is fresh and easily available - so, yeah... that's what these tarantulas "do".
But I agree that they are...
I had ongoing battle with both B. vagans here... now I have declared victory (we'll see how that goes) with the bowl-in-a-bowl method.
I buried one of those rock-like petstore waterdishes partially and put taller glass one (from Sal. Army or wherever to find good fit) inside so it cannot be...
oooohh. an OBT.
I have had luck with red light bulb to light room... can use with the temp thing also. As an overall light source in a calm room, they will often come out all alone. Since they do not see it, you might catch him unawares.
When searching, I like the strong flashlight idea -...
I have red lights set high enough (in raised/mounted aquarium light)that heat does not hit very directly... plus the bulbs are 15W. You can find them at any petshop - with aquarium lights.
I also have a hand light which is very bright plus a small penlight for special illumination - small so...
yeah... glad you took advice immediately.
I raised A avics together until they got to 3/4 inch, but it was for space and an experiment and i was lucky not to lose any.
With few exceptions it will always be a bad idea.
But that's how we learn...
Get two smaller tanks if preferable for...
Oh...and before my GBB molted...he killed a cricket I put in, dragged it out of his web and left it in the other part of his cage....hehe I guess he told me he wasn't hungry. :D

That's funny - I had one do that also. I just figured it was only her!
I guess there are signs...
I was told before I got mine that i would never see it. That even walking near tanks makes them run and hide.
Cannot say it's not true - sometimes.
But when hungry they are usually front-and-center just waiting for prey.
I have been fooled by seeing one out who did not want cricket when...
I was too late for your move... but glad it went well.
I've told this one here before, but:
I used a large "storage" tupperware box (in middle of lvg room floor) and put whole tank in side - which did not stop speedy from going up side of his tank, down again and back up to top of large box...
I was going to say, I guess it depend on how flamable your crickets are.
Get a bellyful of those flamable ones, and an explosion becomes a real danger!
Other way to make it explode would be to look at it too long... I suggest Sunglasses. At night.
Plus I think if the tank gets within 30...
OK... like another opinion is needed here....
I have had good luck explaining when local (typically bad chain store) shop got a T they did not know what to do with... I explained and they gave me run of the shop to make a suitable tank setup so the T would live (it was in tiny delicup with...
I have seen some Ornamentals together in a large tank, and I tried it once with some small A. avic slings until they got bigger.
The avics kept to their own spaces, but as they started wandering around more, i thought it was time to separate. Looking at two near adults now from that batch - it...
Give it time.
If other conditions are alright, the avic will settle in on its' own schedule.
I just re-housed two (A.avics) and they did not eat for a few days even thought they were eating fine before move. I compare them to cats - some need more time, others less - but they will adjust if...
I agree - if you have held her before and know her, no problem.
I find GBB skittish but not at all aggressive.
I have had some speedy moments while transfering, and the first time I ever had to do it she freaked me out a bit by her burst of energy.
No problems anymore, but I was advised to...
I had to go out all day to a wedding and it was very hot and humid here. I turned off A/C's but at last minute left the fan on (prevent stale air)near on floor instead of on cushion material.
Most T's have come out and are moving around now(ok, it is nighttime also) that I put all back as...
oh wow, yourself.
I am as surprised that there IS a reason to use this advice... goes to show - trust instincts until logic/science intervenes.
For what it is worth, I have been extra sensitive to wind/vibrations since responding to this post. A/C cannot be moved, but fan is well away from...
