I wouldn't hold it against the shipper. Especially since he's replacing the T. It can be hard to tell when a spiderling or juvenile T is in pre-molt. I've had them eat and then molt a day later.
I'd leave it alone for a few hours and see what happens. Make sure there is a little humidity . It's in the right position and it looks like new legs coming out from under the old exo. So, don't take a chance on doing more harm than good by trying to help it out. If after a couple hours, there...
get the Curlyhair
I have two redknees (insert rude joke of choice here) and two curlyhairs. If I had to choose a first tarantula among them, I would pick the curlyhair hands down. Out of my four specimens, the curlyhairs are just nicer. I can handle them both without getting a face full of...
From page 209 of the Tarantula Keepers Guide.
"McKee (1986) reports that he tried hybridizing Brachypelma auratum with B. smithi on several occasions. They did copulate and eggs were produced but were infertile."
Hope that helps.
Hello there, My last A. avic sac stayed with the mother for 42 days at which time I took it and opened it up to find over 160 first instar s'lings alive and kicking. the TKG has a chart in the breeding section that gives a gestation period of 52 days...I think...Left my TKG at work. Maybe...
Diatomacious Earth...Read up on it first though...It seems to do a good job with ants and about every other crawly thing. Put it on the ground, on your carpet, counter tops, wherever. It's pretty harmless to people and pets (except be careful not to get any on your T's) It kills by cutting up...
Hey Webber,
Get the Greenbottle blue! The most easy spider ever to raise. Grows extremely fast, is great to look at, handleable (most of them) some are skittish. It comes from a very harsh desert scrubland area in Venizuala (that's probably not spelled correctly) South America. So, just keep...
How long since it's last molt?
It may just not be ready to eat yet...If it's drinking some water, I wouldn't worry too much...also, it may just need more time to adjust to it's new surroundings.
Seems to me that I read a discussion in here somewhere, long ago, that the sex of the babies is determined when the eggs are fertilized...I'll try to find it again but you might try searching the forum here for chromosomes or something like that.
Later.
I have a male A. genic that matured over three years ago and is still going strong. If you don't believe me, just come stick your fingers in his enclosure, lol. I actually just sent him out on a 50/50, and he seems to still be able to do the deed too. I think you'll be happy with him even if...
They're pretty mean
He probably got annoyed and bit it off!, heh heh Just kidding. If it's not bleeding or anything, he'll be alright. And, He'll grow another as good as new in a couple of molts. :D
Hello all, I would just like to add (after also reading the previous vivarium thread) my totally non-scientific opinion that my personal experience with heat lamps and lighting is this: If I want my T's to come out into the front of their hides or into plain sight, I just turn on a clamp light...
LOVE my GBB!!!
I love my GBB! She never fails to entertain. I have her in a ten gallon aquarium with peatmoss and some fake plants. She dug a nice burrow in the moss and then proceded to web the entire aquarium. She then decided that one "house" wasn't enough and climbed up into one of the...
I have a Costa rican tiger rump with two water dishes, one at each end of her enclosure. I got tired of her filling it full of dirt then webbing over it so I added another. She keeps the second one clean. Go figure :? It might be worth a shot anyway.
Good thing for her that she's one of those new airbag equiped late model spiders, so that when she fell down her burrow, she wasn't injured.
Really though, Great luck you have there! Best wishes!
