What kind of Scorpion is this?

My guess, an immature Centruroides sculpturatus - Arizona bark scorpion. Not threatening to a healthy adult unless allergic but it can be medically significant, I'm not sure how a dog would take to a sting from these but these are among the more venomous of the species in the US. Sting Reports...

    angry angry redclaw

I agree with Michiel, you said he isn't dragging his tail which means you should be nowhere near ready enough to give up on him. Leave him be for the most part. Make sure he has water and just offer food once or twice a week. Maybe try food that is a little more active than a superworm, drop...

Environment says loads about the way a scorpion may be acting and it is very presumptuous to just say the scorpion is fine based on a picture posted from the time when it was healthy. I'm not disagreeing with you entirely about it being unhealthy simply because it won't eat. I am disagreeing...

    stagnent air?

Ahh I'm sorry to hear that, but it doesn't sound like the species you keep would be responsible for the cats respiratory problem as they have very mild urticating bristles. It is possible that it is mold spores in the substrate. Peat or potting soil might be better as long as it has no...

To the people I sent c. sculpts to last summer...

I kept you updated periodically. The 5 you sent me are now 20+ easily there is no way for me to get a definite count on them I only know there are 20+ adult / near adult now and many little ones too many to count. It was awesome to have been able to receive these and I still keep them communal...

    stagnent air?

There could be mold that's not visible to you but I've never noticed it in any of my enclosures normally after letting it dry a little the smell dulls or goes away altogether. Then after keeping it damp for so long the smell does come back. I've experienced this well over 2 years now, going on...

    stagnent air?

I knew you use coconut fiber before I even finished reading. I notice this as well in enclosures like my A avic, all my P imperators, my pacman frog. Any enclosure I have to keep slightly damp for a period of time, the longer it is damp the mustier it smells. The only thing I could recommend...

    Lizard versus Spider.

Awesome picture, but I have to disagree. Interfering with nature by taking away the spiders catch after it expended so much energy could be detrimental to the spider. They are both beautiful animals but this truly is nature taking it's course and is why it is such a great picture and such a...

calcium dust on crickets, is it safe for T's

If it is what I'm thinking of I use the same stuff for my pacman frog. I just dust some of it onto the feeders right before giving them to the frog and then he eats those feeders. I give non-dusted to all my inverts as there is a debate on excess calcium leading to bad molts / ruptures over...

    angry angry redclaw

Because I had no info on temperature, hide etc. One month isn't long to go without food but he said it shrank noticeably in size. It may be him being hyper tentative and noticing the slightest change but who knows. With that little bit of info no one can flat out say yes your scorpion is fine...

    angry angry redclaw

What temperature is the inside of his tank, what do you use for a heat source, and does he have a hide like a small half log or something to hide under to get away from the light /feel secure.

    Petco terrarium ventilation question

yeah sticky side out, I would put the tape on the outside of the enclosure and put 2 pieces together sticky side to sticky side. Leave where the tape sticks to the enclosure just 1 strip to stick to the enclosure that way it isn't sticky where the vent holes are and is on the outside.

    Petco terrarium ventilation question

You could always tape serran wrap over most of the vent holes on the sides. I thought of using these as well, they just seem expensive compared to most of the enclosures I normally use.

    P. Imperator Emergency!

I would put some coco-fiber in there for substrate and lay a large flat rock in there as well as a piece of bark or flat wood. It is so they don't slide around and can properly push on each other to do the "mating dance" and there needs to be a rock or piece of bark or something for the...

    Avicularia Versicolor or Brachypelma Smithi

People on her sometimes sell sexed B smithi that are juvenile. Just look through the For sale/trade/Want to buy section. They are usually more for guaranteed but in a case like where you really want to make sure it is female because it is one specifically to remember your Grandpa then it is...

Water bowls. Are they really necessary???

Argument was the wrong word as this is more of a discussion and everyone involved has remained civil. Discussing is a good thing and I do realize every keeper has the right to keep their animals the way they want to. My only real point to the post was if they so commonly use a water dish when...

    Avicularia Versicolor or Brachypelma Smithi

Awesome choice, I don't think you could go wrong with the female B. smithi as a remembrance T for your grandpa. If I were you I'd go for the Avic as a personal buy later on though  Congratulations and good luck on your soon to be new T.

Water bowls. Are they really necessary???

I as well keep water dishes in every one of my T enclosures except slings of course. I can't say for sure if they need them or not as most species probably do get adequate moisture from their food. I will say this though, I personally have seen every one of my T's use a water dish to drink...

    Should I leave it alone?

At only 1 inch it could have a very small tunnel. My LP Slings do this very same thing but they do in fact have a tunnel it is just hard (pretty much impossible unless you see them use it) to find the opening and it doesn't have to be big at all. In coco fiber especially it could be hard to...

    Avicularia Versicolor or Brachypelma Smithi

If it is one of your first T's I would recommend a female B. smithi as it is a fairly hardy T and doesn't require humidity beyond a water dish. These are also fairly long of life on average compared to most T's. Do you prefer arboreal or terrestrial or have no preference?
