Two things I recommend for moving really fast Ts
1. Do it in the bathroom - close the door, plug the bathtub or shower drain and block any vents. Now if they get out they arent lose in your bedroom or somewhere else where there are lots of hiding places.
2. Ts/spiders typically run and then...
Thanks for your help! I will go the no heat pad route for now, and can always add one later on in the fall/winter if I notice he/she is refusing food or getting sluggish.
Two last questions:
How important is it that the packed sand/clay substrate be 100% dry before I put it into its new...
You bring up a good point, and I think I have to side with PETA on this one.
When I first brought home my H. lividum, it was out in the open of its enclosure and enjoyed the sunshine. Then, after being away from its friends for a week or so, it dug a hole, and now does nothing but sit in that...
If it is eating and active without the additional heating, is it safe to say that I am good to go without additional heat? Or does temperature play a role in successful molting?
I just got my first scorpion, a Hadrurus arizonensis. I have been making layers of approx. 25% excavator clay and 75% sand, wetting it until it clumps when i make a fist, and then packing it down solid and drying it out for 4 days per layer. I have about 5-6 inches now, and am letting it...
They are very messy eaters. My red belly cooter does this thing where if he doesnt really like what you have fed him he takes it in his mouth, chews it up, and then blows it out his nose :/ Classy.
I made these the other day... Just waiting for the silicone to dry. Hopefully they will stand up to beating they will take from the turtles!
Also need to add more carbon to the filter or something. My filter is rated for 400 gallons (fluval fx6) but my water is already looking cloudy.

I love the cork/ bark you used on the background, and the plant as well. It looks really pretty.
I would seriously consider putting some wire screen and rubber washer type things over those holes though. You won't have to remake the lid, just cut a circle of screen and use the rubber washer...
Lovely gecko. We had one that got lose in a pet store where I worked. There were so many lose crickets and nice warm places for him to go, he thrived. Every night at exactly 9pm he would start barking...it was always fun to watch the customers reactions when they heard him start up!
I keep mine dry and with a water dish ( that is what was recommended to me by the breeder I got it from). I feed smallish sized crickets once a week - it eats like a monster :) Here is a pic of its temporary home.
