My mantis has been doing well, and eats a ton. I've fed him grasshoppers and moths from around the area, and he grabs them as soon as I put them in. Very entertaining and interesting creature. I'll probably let him go soon...I just wanted one to observe and take pictures of for awhile.
Thanks. I was going to get it a few crickets when I went out today, and last night I tried to attract moths with the porch light but failed.
It seems pretty happy where I have it, and it always looks back at me when I'm checking him out. :)
I caught one pretty recently here in Moscow and do intend to keep it. What should I feed it, do they like humidity, and about how warm should I keep it? I buy crickets pretty often for my scorpion, so can I just pick up a few extra to feed to it? Or do they prefer things that fly, like moths...
So I'm hanging out in front of my house, and look up to see this pretty cool looking spider right above me.
Anybody know what it may be? It was found in northern Idaho and is about an inch in diameter with its legs tucked in like that. Who knows how much bigger it is with them out...
These fish are actually specified as feeder fish at the pet store, so I'm pretty sure they aren't altered in any way.
But if they are fatty then I'll probably only give him a small one each month or so.
I feed mine crickets regularly, but I think I may switch to one goldfish every other week. I got him one and he caught/ate it immediately - usually crickets linger in the tank for a few days before they're all caught.
It's a desert setup, and to keep it from being too boring looking I was building an old model truck, then modifying it to look old and burnt out. I figured that would make a cool hide; a half-buried beat up truck.
^^^Thanks, I'll use my water-based paints.
And to Blasphemy: I want to paint a hide I'm making, which wouldn't be too useful on the outside of the tank.
K, I thought oil based would be a bad idea. But I was also worried about the water based coming off like Cirith said. Though, this particular piece of scenery will be in a desert setup, so it won't be too humid in the tank.
Anybody know what they use to color fish tank decorations? There's...
I don't mean to feed it to one, or paint directly on one, but I want to paint a piece of scenery for the enclosure. There will probably be a lot of contact with the scorp, and I want to make sure that dry model paint won't be toxic for my soon-to-be new scorp. Anybody know if oil-based or...
Wow, I really like those red and black scorps! What are they?
Also, awesome beheading pics. My scorp usually starts with the head too, but I've never seen him pull it off before eating it like that.
Yeah, it looked a little creepy seeing little swarms of them. I can't even find those little ones I was confused about, and there seems to be more of the baby crickets. I stopped counting around 17, and I still find a new one here and there.
It's good to hear that they're good for the tank.
