I second Shell's explanation and just wanted to add, the Az Blond and G. rosea are two of the slower growing tarantulas. I have an adult rosea that went 19 months between molts and an AZ Aphonopelma that is on 25 months and showing no premolt behavior/signs.
You mentioned you have scorpions around the house. Do you spray/have the house sprayed? At some point I would imagine it would ingest some pesticide either through eating or grooming and will probably die. I know it provides no assurance until you actually see a dead OBT but, if you do get...

I grew up in Roxbury. If you can make your way to Hopatcong, Bear Pond is an awesome place to find everything. There was an old Boy Scout camp up there where I used to go fishing and herping. Great fishing!! Careful though, used to see a lot of Copperheads.

Concerning whether or not it is fully grown, A. metallica gets to a very nice size. My adult female is pushing a 7 inch DLS. I also don't keep her enclosure too humid, full waterdish, overflow it once a week. Works for me.
