Whats the deal with Blue Death-feigning beetles?

Thanks for the reply. Hmmm… that's really interesting. I have 6 adults with at least 2 pairs, but can't seem to get any larva, despite having a similar setup to yours. I have them on about 90% coco bedding and 10% sand. Keeping them drier hasn't produced anything, so I started keeping the...

Whats the deal with Blue Death-feigning beetles?

Wow! I made the original post 9 years ago! I'm glad to see it revived though. I'd love to see these beetles reproduce successfully in captivity, but I gave up on that possibility. I'm thinking the larvae might eat a certain species of plant root or need one for successful pupation , as was...

    T.I.T.T.I.E.S. West Texas Trip 2008

On a side note, I too love the name. It has inspired me to work on creating my own group, American Society Studying The Outrageous Methods Of Unusual Terrestrial Herps. Something mainly based up here in the north east. Reason being, I'd love to hit the TITTIES fest, but can't make the haul...

    UV trap?

I've had mixed results with blacklights. I do always set one up when I go out, but it seems like most of the insects come to the mercury vapor light I use. Same set up as people mentioned (meaning hanging a sheet up), just different lighting. Here is my home-made rig and some of it in action.

    Raising Dermestid

From what I've heard, that carefresh bedding is some of the best substrate you can use for them. Though, I'm sure torn up cardboard would work just fine. Also, alot of ventilation is required. If it gets humid/damp, bacteria and mites come in waves whipping out the colony. Keep these buggers...

    Roachmanwillis

I heard he completely got out of the hobby a couple of months ago. I don't know if something personal went on or what. I started asking around when he wasn't showing up at the White Plains, NY shows. However, the very latest news I heard was a few weeks ago and I was told that he's coming...

    Please Help!!!!!!!

Yeah, we need to get life.... unlike you, who instantly complains about things you obviously know nothing about. And I wont even point out the irony of you telling us to take it to PM's when YOU started all this by flaming your seller on a public thread. Talk about the pot calling the kettle...

:D My Grammostola Rosea was on the "Rachel Ray Show" November 8th 2007

I can't stand Rachel Ray. I think it's mainly her voice. Good lord, that Cheese-it's commercial that she does... chills me to the bone. Her raspy voice when she says "Guys..... where's the Cheese-It's?" Cuts through me like a hot knife through butter.

    Please Help!!!!!!!

Seeing fastgixxerlv post 10 times within an hour and then vanishing like this leads me to believe he's off pouting. This sort of activity really rubs me the wrong way. Aside from the fact of making this private transaction into a public matter, he raises SO much fuss about it, then in those...

    Very Distressed (warning: graphic photo)

Just to throw my two cents in, I would also like to state that I've gotten T's from Ken and the packing was great. As he mentioned, the pictures aren't of exactly how the items were packed. She mentioned that she saw the molted carapace in the 'mess' so, to me, it seems like a closed case. By...

    B. dubia as "feeder beetles"...

I think the word "roaches" brings a general feeling of disgust to most non-hobbyists when they hear it. Same goes for the whole word "cockroach". Maybe you should try mixing up the terminology of it and drop the surname... stating that you're going to start a colony of "cocks". She might...

    Nephila clavata mating advice?

Pulk, that's awesome that you're attempting this breeding project. I'm on a mission of sorts to make the Nephila genus a bit more popular in the states. These are awesome spiders and make one heck of a display invert. Please keep us updated with your breeding experiences. And for the matter...

    Tropical Nephila species.

That's a good point Pulk, I didn't think about how poorly they ship. There has to be a method that someone could come up with to make these things more available. They are such an awesome spider, the whole genus is. I wonder if you sort of "sandwiched" the spider between two peices of paper...

    Tropical Nephila species.

I was wondering the legality of any tropical Nephila species. I am assuming there is no regulation as an arachnid is and arachnid. The Huntsman spiders I've been seeing pop up lately are in the same boat I'd imagine. Why don't we see them more often in the hobby?? Is it legal issues, or just...

    ladies and gent, the beetles

Wow loxo, and Ted for that matter.... if you ever collect any more pairs of the L. elaphus, D. tityus, or C. gloriosa shoot me a PM I'd love to purchase a pair off of ya. I was huge into the beetle breeding, but then I got rid of almost everything once I realized how illegal the exotic beetles...
