Dude, that is a lot of mold! Your post says you used topsoil and bark from your back yard. That, combined with lack of ventilation, is probably the problem. Often baking will not eliminate all of the mold spores, and even at that high of a temp, many spores could survive for a short duration...
can you post a pic of the kicked hairs? I have never seen a versi do this. My very first encounter with a T ever was a versicolor poop shoot. Chris from Krazy8's handed me the first T I ever held, and it proceeded to poop-cannon my shirt. I took that spider home and have been in love with...
If mine couldn't flip over her water dish she would burry it. But she seems to have no problem with moist substrate. And she loves to climb. So I gave up in the dish and just soak her dirt once a week and she seems quite happy.
Holy Moses... if that Miranda had crawled up my face like that... I would have had to stop the camera to change my shorts! Your calmness is amazing. Go you!
Wow... Have fun -- they smell!
I had two in my home and have had as many as 7 under my care in the past. You will probably want to keep them in separate cages, or at least have enough cages to separate the fighters until the settle down. They are very social so if they do decide to get...
Google my friend... Google... http://www.state.tn.us/twra/
Call them up, ask who they recommend who works with crocodillians. Also a good idea, if you can find someone in your area... go volunteer for the rescue for a few months before you get your pet. Often these organizations are...
Oh that's going to be tough in TN... probably why you don't have restrictions on them... its gets so cold they wouldn't survive the winter if they excaped/ were released.
If you have the means to keep them, and an indoor space for the winter (they need basking up to the 90's) and you are ok...
Hey Hedora... what zoo do you work for? I worked reptiles for Phoenix until about 2 years ago.
I have to agree with you, caimen are not fun to keep. They are very, very dirty, so you will need to spend serious $$$ on a good filtration system. You are basically looking at converting your...
Ok, I think I see the stuff you are feeding them... If I am reading this right, this stuff is composed of curly endive, lamb's lettuce, and raddicchio. Sweetie there is your stool problem right there! This is just salad greens. Not bad for what it is, but what it isn't is a good tortoise...
Hi Soul,
I've done a little research on tortoise nutrition, but not specifically with Herman's. However I have never heard of this "floretta crispy salad" of which you speak... what's in it?
The "chalk rock" you mentioned is likely urates, the darker part of the stool will be the actual...
well said Cliff, and I am grateful for all I have learned from all the posters on here. recon I just get a little nervous due to negative experiences in the past (not on this board) when folks get "a might excited" about a topic.
I just want to make sure everything stays pleasant...
If she has a URTI then she needs to be seen by a vet. Baytril needs to be dosed out by a professional because at the wrong dose you will poison your snake. Remember medicines act differently in reptiles than humans, and your folks will more than likely not be able to adjust the dosage...
wow.... you guys are serriously into this ant thing. It was never my intention to start an argument about species. My intention was "hey guys, check out these cool looking ant cone thingys!" and let it go at that. I won't be posting any other pics (because I don't have any others, I wiped my...
You know, the ants that I've always known as "harvesters" around here (Sonoran Desert) never had cones like that either... Usually just holes in the ground as a burrow entrance. Also, I always thought their color was darker than these ants.
If it helps at all, there was a considerable...
Ok guys, the extent of my knowledge about ants would fit comfortably inside your average thimble, but... after looking a pics of all the ants suggested so far, I'm thinking Pogonomyrmex (sp?) - no spikes on these guys like on the Acromyrmex versicolor pic I saw.
I don't know when I'll be out...
Thanks guys, she's just shy of 3" and no, I have not confirmed the sex on her yet. She is uber-skittish and I am a lousy photographer so I don't know about getting a better photo. Maybe Santa will bring me a new camera for Christmas. :)
My baby P. metallica molted this weekend and I caught her out today showing off her pretty colors. She is about 2.5" now and she is a she until proven otherwise. ;)
