Thanks for the info! I never have been sure of what they were...never really could get one to hang around long enough to look at; this one, however, was more than happy to pose for the camera for a good 10 or 15 minutes. Certainly are cute, but the green on the chelicerae didn't turn out...
Salticidae(?) Photos.. (edit: Phidippus audax)
A few shots of what is quite possible the largest "jumping spider" I've ever seen. Presumably of the Salticidae family, but I am not an expert, so... These are an indigineous little spider, and rarely do I see them over about an 1/8" or so in...
w00t! My first photo thread! :D
Took a couple photos of the new P. cancerides spiderling, and decided to have ProEx see about giving me some "PhotoCDs." Results weren't great, but not too bad either. Shot on Kodak High Definition 400 film with a Nikon N75 using a Nikkor 60mm Micro lens...
In the great scheme of things, the ideal price to sell anything at is the price whereby you make the most money and come as close to exhausting your supply as possible. If there is more demand than you have supply, you probably aren't charging enough. Considering everywhere I've looked is more...
LOL, that I hadn't heard. Although, I suspect if you're adding so much water to your enclosures that the waterproofing and floating became problematic, your Ts would probably be quite irritated with you... :D
The problem with the industrial vermiculite is that it's been known to cause respiratory problems in humans; I don't know of inverts having any particular problems with one vs. the other. If you aren't buying your vermiculite from, say, an industrial construction supplier, you should be ok.. :)...
I don't know what to think here. I can certainly verify that this T stands out, head-and-shoulders, above the rest in it's beauty. I certainly see the argument that there are many other stunning species of Ts available, but every time I show pictures of Ts to non-hobbyists, many will illicit...
Lighting lighting lighting.
It's all about the lighting.
But then again, photography isn't much without light.
For any sort of potraiture (be it people, or arachnid), you want to provide even, full lighting - try eliminating as much shadowing as possible.
For the best shots, you'll...
For that matter, I'd like one main site that would list species, by sci. name, and links to each dealer who has it. Nothing more, nothing less. Just let me know that, if I'm looking for, say, H.masculata, I can currently obtain it from the following vendors.
I was thinking of coding...
That was my first thought, as well. Nice looking site, some nice organizational options and whatnot, but I don't know my common names at all. I mean, Indian Ornamental means nothing to me; I could infer it's probably a pokie, but what about the 'Ornamental Baboon', which is actually a...
I'm curious about lighting for Ts. I'm looking for something that provides a full-spectrum light source, but that isn't harmful to the T.
From searching around, I've learned that using heatlamps and the like is generally a no-no, and that lighting in general is unnecessary, but as these are...
Yes, yes....my Avic did that to me this morning as well. Except it had the courtesy to aim at my face, first. Thankfully it was still in it's enclosure... :D
I'd always imagined a ... less energetic ... expungement of waste...
Actually, in my experience, most carriers either have rules explicitly disallowing shipping of living creatures in general, or disallowing arachnids one way or another, and as such -- bringing shipping mishaps to their attention might actually cause the dealer/shipper to have future problems...
LOL, smithis scare me. I've had a smithi spiderling for about 6 months now. It has not yet molted, and only eats about one cricket a month, no matter what I do. Yet, it's perfectly responsive, healthy looking, and seems to be in good spirits -- so I just let it do it's thing...
I'm...
Oh.
LOL!
Just when I thought maybe I had it nailed... ;)
Ok, I'll try and get a couple better shots of it tonight, maybe under some better lighting...see what I come up with.
I'm starting to understand why Petco had it listed as "Avicularia spp." =D If it's indeed braunshauseni...
