Only one escape. Male 5" B. Smithi slid screen top open one night. Found him 3 weeks later, alive. We have over 100 T's and have been in the hobby over 6 years. BTW, we lock all of the cages now.

I'm no professional photographer, but I just couldn't resist a photo opportunity like this. She was just out eating a late night snack when I snapped this.
I am going to move both of the males to a slightly warmer room for a couple of days to see if that helps get the blood flowing, so to speak.
The next time I put the GBBs together, I will try to get it on video. I have often heard of the female GBBs being very aggressive towards the males...
As of late, my boyfriend and I have run into a little problem. We have two pairs of T's we are trying to mate, but in both cases, the males are unwilling. Both of these males have been witnessed making sperm webs. We have mated plenty of other T's, and had nothing but success. We have never...
Male A. Versicolor adults I have seen have all been about 3 to 3 1/2 inches leg span. If yours has tibial hooks as well, I would say that it is a safe bet that it is an adult male.
You should post some pics :) I have never seen a male with stunted palps before.
I think this is a wonderfully smart idea! While I don't think that the thickness of the rubber gloves would completely defend against a bite from an adult T, there is no doubt on it cutting down on escapes. You could probably get away with having juvenile T bite the gloves without full...
We've been growing him for 2 years now. I was so suprised when he molted out a month ago as a full adult male at this size. He must be just barely over 2 inches. Is this normal? (He is cute though)
I have been told that this condition is caused by a bad molt where the joints have deteriorated or weakened. Never have seen this happen to any of my T's, but my boyfriend/spider partner has seen it happen to other peoples T's. Don't know if there is a cure to this condition.
My dream tarantula would be the color of an A. versi sling with firey red eyes, and be the size of an arabian stalion. It would be able to leap nearly a half mile in the air without harm to joints or epigastic furrow. It would shoot firey spikes from it's eyes at enemies at my command. I...
Just a thought, maybe it's a weak part of the abdomen membrane. After molting, since it is even more flexable while drying, it stretches out bigger; hence the reson that it looks bigger now.
Again, this is just my hypothesis.
Any thoughts? Does this logic make sense?
We'll just let the FCC decide for us if pubic is an "unfit" word.
Seriously though, I Googled it. But in this T's case wouldn't it be a F.Lower.P.A?
And even more seriously, I've never seen anything like that on a T and I hope that it's nothing more than an unharmful abnormality.
Does it behave any thing like this video? The behavior you are decribing sounds similar? I know that it is a different species altogether, but maybe there is a common link. http://www.danvegard.com/video/b_albopilosum.wmv
I can't get over the "rare" statement either. Give me a break.
Next thing I know, someone will be breaking down my door to steel my 5 "rare" B. smithi.
I wouldn't put her down. Where there is life, there is hope.
If she does die naturally, some parasite may hatch out of her and explain this whole mystery. Otherwise my only guess at what is happening to her is that she has been around some kind of toxin.
How long has it been since her...
