My vote goes for coco fiber for its versatility. Can be used dry or damp, and it is easy to clean. And since you only need one kind, can be cheaper and saves space from having multiple type for different kinds of setups.
Lately I've been using a "forest bed", which has coco fiber...
If you left the cage open, I doubt it would hunt you down in the night. Your T sounds like it is not just defending its home, but the land around it as well... like a ranch.
Also try to find Grammostola sp. "North". They're basically a variation of a G. Rosea. I have 2 that are super easy to take care of, and they are super gentle like a pulchra. They may be a bit harder to find, but not as expensive and rare as a pulchra.
To get a female that's sexed and still not even an adult, prepare to spend a lot of money... IF you can find one. Any breeder is not going to have one, so you'll have to try to get one from someone who happens to be selling theirs. And I've seen them go for $300... UNSEXED.
I think this is one of the most important things in a relationship, is TRYING to understand your mate, and why he/she does what they do. In return, we have to try to understand the things they like. We may not get into it, but we can at least understand it. Major kudos to her.
