What method(s) work best for maintaining consistent soil moisture in an enclosure? I have historically kept species that prefer dry substrate so haven't worried too much about it other than occasionally overflowing the water dish. I'm thinking about branching out into some more tropical...
No worries. Poking and prodding, no. I did move it gently to make sure there was no rupture on the ventral side of the abdomen.
Waiting is going to be excruciating because I go out of town tomorrow for 4 days. I guess the plus side is I should have an answer by the time I return and there...
Yesterday I had a majorly regrettable lapse in judgement. I was running on a lack of sleep and had spent the 5 hours crawling through a cave immediately prior to deciding I needed to water my tarantulas.
I had just finished watering my juvenile (~2 in) P. sazimai and my juvenile female A...
I placed an order way back in September. I have an erratic work schedule that makes it difficult for me to ensure I will be home. Casey held the order for SIX months for me until we could work out good date. She also threw in a nice freebie. Very easy to work with.
I would say no. It's high up there, but I think it ranks below kayaking and hiking and somewhere along the same level as growing native wildflowers. It beats out fantasy football though (even though that sucks my life away during the season).
A cursory search of Fear Not's website didn't mention where they were being imported from. They also have Psalmopoeus victorii listed from what is presumably the same import.
The crops do not produce roundup. They have been altered to make them resistant to roundup. That allows farmers to spray roundup on their fields without killing their crops.
I had a tarantula on my headboard when my wife and I started dating. She got used to them pretty quickly, despite not liking spiders very well. Now she doesn't care when I get new ones, but she does like to be warned first so she doesn't catch spidery movement in a place she didn't expect.
L. parahybana - Mrs. Fuzzy Breeches
A. chalcodes - Elvira
My wife named both of those. I haven't named any of the others.
My first tarantula ever was Genghis. A female G. rosea.
I'd definitely ask for an updated photo just for confirmation, but if you can get a female B. boehmei on the cheap that's great.
I got one female each of B. hamorii, E. campestratus, and G. rosea for cheap a few months back from a Craigslist ad. I had a cop friend go meet them to pick them up...
I've been using this heater in my t-room and have had no issues with it. It also doesn't look half-bad in the case that your t-room serves multiple functions.

My N. tripepii tends to flee or flick. I don't think I've ever seen it give a pose. Side note: It is so freaking fast for such a stout spider.
Both of my A. hentzi are out for blood though. One of them has flipped over on its back and bit in the air. She's a crabby little lady.
