    About my scorps

I use cobra heat mats on mine with great success, but then again, I also live in Southern California and they're kept at a nice toasty room temperature through out the year too. Burrowing species, the mat is held against the side of the tank.

    Latrodectus (Theridiidae) Picture Thread

Eggsacs are the best known method of identifying Widows of North America. The variations on dorsal and ventral markings are amazing and sometimes bizarre. Get this I found a Black Widow yesterday, in my OWN backyard, with a swirly olive-colored abdomen with a complete ventral red hourglass, and...

Oh yeah, provide standing water not absorbant material. Deathstalkers are dunkers and boy do they visit it frequently.

    Immature Latrodectus spp.?

Yes, all North American Widow species have a ventral marking, not always a distinct hourglass though. A pic may help but can't promise anything.

Peter, what are you talking about??? :( Leiurus is one of the thirtiest water drinking species of Buthid I've ever owned!!! :D I never witnessed a more water guzzling species of Buthid, place a wide, shallow dish like from a energy drink or even wider near their scrape but not too near as...

How many different species do you own?

Several adult Centruroides vittatus, unnaccounted number of juveniles. Several adult Centruroides exilicauda, unnaccounted number of juveniles. And can you beleive I want to create more colonies of these species on my next payday? I love these scorpions they create a pleasant balance with...

    Immature Latrodectus spp.?

Well, it is really hard to say. There are numerous variations on the ventral and dorsal markings. And the legs on Juvenile L.hesperus, L.variolus, and L.mactans can be banded. L.geometricus comes in a wide array of colors such as pale yellows, grays, browns, and blacks. Also, the three Black...

    C. hentzi

Exactly, though I was speaking more on aesthetic and material wise, I have wonderful success keeping the humidity at 65-75%, but sans alot water moisture of course.

    C. hentzi

Yeah, that might be the case.

    C. hentzi

misfitsfiend, maybe it is a case of direct water contact?

    C. hentzi

Well actually I haven't tried it, but vittatus can be the meanest little buggers. And also, cannibalism will likely occur interspecies in relation to adult and offspring.

    C. hentzi

Yes, they can be kept similar to vittatus, except I would use crushed coconut bedding, humidity at 65-75% and temperature at 75-85 Faranheit. And no, they won't get along with vittatus. 2.5 or 5 gallon terrarium would do well for 3-5 of these critters. Or even a plastic shoebox with apt...

    breeding p.transvaalicus

I am kinda superstitious about communal P.transvaalicus, I believe it is beneficial to introduce the scorpions to the new tank together. Let them get situated together rather than introducing newcomers. It is a formula that worked super for me. I bought all four from the same dealer at the same...

    Beauty of Latrodectus

Wicked, what a treasure, love the close of the cephalothorax, well detailed shot with a nice matte black effect. One of the best pics I've seen yet. Do you keep these awesome arachnids as pets? I have a nice webpage on L.hasselti I will be posting here soon, some fascinating facts and...

I am hoping more foreign Latrodectus species are introduced into the hobby (such as these examples). Any such good tidings please me well.
