Hello all-
Just need some expert feedback to see if I correctly identified this beauty that I ran into this evening. I found him wandering the scrubland after 3 days of much needed rain here in Southern California. I believe it is a "California Trapdoor Spider or Bothriocyrtum californicum...
Your "problem is the same as mine. What was 5 is now 50+ with 2nd instars running around as well! I love em and they go crazy on newly hatched B. lateralis roaches. I'll definitely be selling some soon. I've been idle on the board for too long now.

I've experienced gestation periods ranging from three to six months. My adult colony is mass-reproducing like crazy! I have at least six HUGE females right now and expect to have multiple broods at anytime. Stay posted!
I keep mine the same way as B. jacksoni - keep them at 70-85 degrees, one half of the cage damp and the other dry. Add plenty of cork bark and they'll be in heaven. Here are two pics of the one I have:

I agree with John - keep them a bit warmer during the summer months and keep one half of their enclosure a bit more humid. I've had years of success raising them this way :)
Absolutely! When they arrived in the mail (I did NOT take them on the plane LOL), I placed them all in a 10-gallon that I always have setup for "new acquisitions" and have left them alone since. Needless to say, they are doing very well. I threw in 20 very small B. dubia nymphs last night and as...
I used an LED-based UV flashlight (I could easily see them from 10-15 feet away) and a pair of 6-inch tweezers with small/thin pieces of foam glued to their tips. My tweezer modification prevents injuries caused by crushed metasoma segments. Top that off with an empty deli cup and I was having...
I'm very careful about not disrupting the local balance... What I collected was over an area the size of a soccer field. Additionally, for every one I took I left at least 10. There are millions upon millions all over the Phoenix area. I've been keeping this species for over 7 years now. They'll...
I was staying at the Fairmont Princess Resort. Located all these guys between the back of the hotel and the golf course! I found a bunch at green #4! I guess these C. sculps enjoyed the golf tournament earlier in the week ;) LOL
Jeff
Like it?!! I LOVE IT!! Thanks so much for sharing!
Let me know if you need more high-res pics of Androctonus species. I keep and have some excellent photos of A. australis lybicus morph, tunisia morph, A. bicolor, A. mauritanicus, A. crassicauda, Hottentotta judaicus, Rhopalurus junceus...
I've been in Scottsdale, AZ for the past 4 days at a Sony PlayStation Gaming Conference for game publishers. Last night and tonight I decided to hike around the resort to hunt for scorpions with my CREE LED UV flashlight, not expecting to find anything. Well, after 3-4 hours of exploring the...
