    Scorpion poop

I read that scorpion poop is supposed to be a dry white powder but my emps' droppings have more of a creamy texture, sort of like the inside of a marshmallow. Anyone else experience this?

    Pics of my Emps

Yes, he's my name for the big guy. He's a hell of an eater too - he ate three large crickets tonight. He was still swallowing one when he grabbed another in his pedipalps and held onto it. I'm a little worried that Caligula won't get his fair share as there are only two crickets left. I've...

    Pics of my Emps

Thanks! Yes, it's an artificial one that I got at Petsmart for about $20CAN. Titus in particular likes to climb in and around it. He's a really good climber.

    TOPIC: Scorpion Enclosures

This is my 29g long enclosure for my two P. imperator. The substrate is coconut husk with two water dishes at each end for drinking/humidity. There's a large artificial mangrove root in the centre which my scorps like to climb in and around. The hide is an artificial cave in the left side of...

    Pics of my Emps

Today is my one week anniversary having them and so far so good. They're a lot of fun to watch so I thought I'd post some pics. That's Caligula in the first pic, Titus in the bottom one, and their home in the middle.

    my Emp died

Oh, that's too bad. Still, she was an impressive 7.5". How old was she or how long did you have her?

    Who uses moonlight bulbs?

My scorps are quite active at night with the moonlight bulb on (Exo Terra makes them under the brand name Night Glo - the glass is a dark purple-blue colour). If they were in complete darkness, I wouldn't be able to see them do their thing! The light is quite faint, even at 75W in my 29g tank...

    Who uses moonlight bulbs?

I'm pretty sure they're not the same as blacklight bulbs as my scorps don't glow under this light. The effect is still beautiful though as the whole tank has a soft glow and I can pretend that it's tropical West Africa under a full moon.

    Just bought my first scorpions

Thanks everyone. This morning, I couldn't find Caligula at all! I guess he buried himself overnight. Titus was snuggled into a crevice of my mangrove root though.

    Just bought my first scorpions

Thanks, I'll mist the tank to increase humidity. I currently have the Night Glo bulb on so I can see what they're doing and it's a really cool effect. It's not a blacklight as they're not glowing and it's safe.

    Just bought my first scorpions

I've been interested in keeping scorpions for some time now and have done a lot of research. I just found this message board last night and read a few dozen of the pages. A few hours ago, I bought two emperor scorpions for my 29g tank. One's about 4" long (I've named him Titus) and the other...

    Live plants

Not much, from what I've read. Since their native habitat is the rain forest, indirect light is best. These appear to be extremely low-maintenance plants as the only thing they need is a misting every now and then. Since an emperor tank is already humid, it's perfect. The amethyst crystal...

    Live plants

I set up my tank yesterday but I went to Home Depot today and they were selling air plants (Tillandsia sp.) attached to amethyst crystals. They're called air plants because hey've also developed the ability to get all their water and nutrients from the air, hence their name. As a result, their...
