Personally, I like that tarantulas are complex creatures with a simple surface. They appear emotionless, solid, stale and boring until someone with an open mind takes on the endless task of observing and understanding them. For an animal that seems so simple, they do amazing things with the...
My parents built a patio in their backyard with an overhang on it. An ord weaver managed to build a web from the outside edge all the way to the opposite end of the house. I'd say it was about 20 feet. My dad found this out by taking a photo of the new shed we put it and he couldn't figure out...
Well it's my last day here and I'm flying out of Sydney in 7 hours... a lot of those spiders could be found in the backyard of the boarding house I stayed in. I never did get to see a Redback though, not a full adult female anyway.
Beautiful pics!
I've been keeping my eyes open in sydney for whatever I can find and I havn't seen anything that looks like that yet.
Are they common in New South Wales?
Looks a little more charming then the huntsman by my bed this morning.
I understand your pain... I'm in australia right now and there is a huge Huntsman in the backyard every evening but it's too fast for me. Those buggers can scurry in any direction too. :wall:
I used to find big ones in my parents house all the time, in the basement and in the cold celler.
One fell from the ceiling and landed on my neck once. I've been creeped out by them ever since.
So sorry to hear about your situation.... I remember how tough it was to get ridd of my little Rosie willingly. I wish you the best rebuilding your collection as hard as it will be.
On a side note I'm very moved by members (Warren et al) who wish to send you some slings to help build your...
I'd follow the suggestion about the water dish and you should be good to go. I kept my 4" G. rosea is a 10 gallon tank, which by T standards is huge and even though there was a lot of room for her to fall she only climbed when I changed the substrate and it wasen't as dry as it should've been...
When I get back from my travels, I think I want to get...
A.versicolor
B. Smithi
G. Rosea :D (yeah big ambitions eh?)
I just want to build a foundation of the basics and then work my way into intermediate Ts.
I would have to cast a vote in favour of getting a Rosie too. Easy to keep and some of them can be very interesting. but I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you get. :D
I totally support the idea of getting something "cute" to lure the lady into further interest in Ts :D
Then you can get pretty orange ones, and blue white and yellow ones...
For me I like them as "pets" more or less. I've had one spider in my time and I treated it's enclosure as I did and aquarium... it was there for display to look attractive in the room as well as display the spider (when it was out anyway). I like enclosures that are out in the open, to be used...
