    Bad Molt

hmm - interesting. I bet a there are debates about this -- there's probably a camp that says you should try to replicate their natural condition and then there's the camp that you are in saying it's not necessary. Being new to this, I'm on the fence and could go either way I suppose. For now...

    Bad Molt

Wow, that's interesting Paramite -- I've tried to find some information about the Brazilian Black natural history and there's not much out there. Do you know for sure that in the wild they wouldn't be in a high humidity environment? Sure - we know that G. rosea is in a dry environment but...

    Bad Molt

I guess by 2" I can use a soda cap as a water dish. None of my 7 slings are even close to 2" yet.

    Bad Molt

Okay -- I thought (and it was suggested) that perhaps this happened because the cage was too dry. But I will be careful about finding the right balance of moisture vs. too moist. My sub-adults have water dishes, so I never worry about getting the substrate terribly moist. I love the little...

    Bad Molt

I wonder what would have happened in nature -- would he have continued to drag that molt around? Would the molt and the leg have eventually torn off? I would think, being slowed down with a molt attached to him, that he'd become easier prey for something bigger looking for a meal. Based...

    Bad Molt

Okay ... good to know. I'll keep an eye on it but I guess there isn't really anything I can or need to do for the little guy (or girl).

    Bad Molt

Thanks for the response! I've been watching the little guy a lot today and he seems alright I guess. Good advice -- If it happens again I'll try softening it with water but he was struggling so much I'm not sure even if I had done that he wouldn't have lost the leg anyhow. And I couldn't just...

    Bad Molt

Ack! One of my sweet little G. pulchras had a bad first molt (first mot in my care - not first of its life -- the little thing is between 3/4"-1"). I keep my Ts at work, so I don't see them all weekend. On Friday evening before leaving work I noticed that it had started molting. When I came...

    Dwarf species

thanks Thanks for the quick reply xhexdx. I already looked at the most recent for sale / trade posts but didn't think about the breeding section. Also - the other thread you mentioned looks to have lots of good info.

    Dwarf species

Is anyone out there breeding and selling the dwarf Aphonopelma or Cyriocosmus tarantulas? I don't see much information about them on these boards and I'm very interested in learning a bit more and hopefully getting some. Thanks!

    tarantula help.....

mealworms To repeat what rejected1 said - you can use your forceps / tweezers to crush the head of the mealworm, that way it doesn't dig, but it will still wiggle some to attract your Ts attention. Just because your rosies are "outside" (I assume you mean they are not in their hide)...

Adult A. chalcodes- Seriously seasonal feeders?

my two I'm actually quite relieved to see your post ... I have had two A. chalcodes slings for nearly 2 months now and they have no interest in eating. It's completely different from my G. pulchra slings and my B. vagans sling, who regularly eat twice a week. It's been driving me nuts and yet...

    tarantulas on craigslist

NC - Raleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill I purchased 2 A. chalcodes slings and a friend purchased a rosie off of CL here in NC. The same guy has more Ts listed now and I don't think his ads have ever been flagged: http://raleigh.craigslist.org/pet/1083535446.html...

    They're Here! They're Here! They're Here!

And they ATE! I know - let them settle in, don't try to feed right away. Well, what harm could it do to offer something while I am watching them??? Each of them took down a live baby cricket -- even the teeny 1/4" vagans! Yay! :D Okay - NOW I'm really going to get back to work!
