Just got this girl on 10/13/12. She is about 10yrs old. A little skittsh but good natured. My last G. Rosea died this year and she was a little over 20yrs old
Have been out of the T world for a while and just recently getting back into tarantulas. I don't handle them much after they get too much bigger than this. Can't stand the itching but I love my little girls!
You don't need to have small crickets you can use cricket parts. You can also try small meal worms since they will love the wiggling dinner! :) These guys will readily take any food offered and you don't need any special container set up, any clear plastic container with lots of ventilation...
Hello Again
My name is Diane. I was a member of this forum as (Diane S)a few years ago when i had quite a nice collection of Ts. I've had to drop off the map for a while and recover from difficult situations and now I'm back. I've been just quietly observing which is mostly all I'll probably...
Thank you! I've missed the forum so much! I'm glad to be back with the most awesome group of hobbiest on the net IMO.:D I've got some new photos I'll be posting soon as I try to get back in the rhythm of T-living.
I use dried plants from Hobby Lobby. The smaller plastic plants are also good for decor and they're easy to clean. Alot of hobby stores carry unfinishes woods, untreated dried plants for crafters. I buy the untreated supplies for my Ts but mainly because the paint dust or fragrances usually...
I do have 2 males but they are of a different species. I tossed in a few crickets and that seems to have satisfied her for the time being.
Tapping for sex huh..., that's something I haven't tried yet. Poor girl, I know how she must feel. Well, i'm gonna have another icecream cone...
Why does she tap?
I have an adult female H. lividum that has blessed me with a nightly (musical)taps against the side of her enclosure. The first time I heard this, I was checking all my 8-legged little wonders before my bedtime and the noise was so loud it startled me! It was just like a...
Well, I'm not too sure mine had a purpose to all that work cause in the next couple of days, she moved all that dirt back to the house :? Weird.
Don't try to understand them, just love 'em for what they are, whatever that is {D Just look at them and say "Awww, isn't that cute?!"
Mine doesn't do a whole lot but she did do some spring cleaning once :D
She comes out about every other day, checks the grounds and heads back to the house. :p
Well, I like the G pulchra as well but if I had another choice I would go with a G aureostriata :D They are pretty similar in tempermant and attitude, both are fairly calm but the aureostriatas have more color. Although!.... It's pretty tough to beat that smooth velvety black! :p
I keep mine fairly dry and mist the side of the container about every 3 days. Sometimes I use an eyedropper to place a few drops of water on the sides and it seems to find them with no problem.
It's about time for bigger accommodations :D
When ever the dirt gets too moist in there, my...
Very good for Ts. I use them for my slings occasionally. They're soft and squishy. :D They grow pretty fast though, so if you grow them a few days, they will be big enough for an adult T as well.
Wow! Those are great photos! I've never seen a terrestrial T molt while on the side of the tank (or kritter keeper). Mine always go under ground for the process unless they're arboreal.
Don't you just love the velvety black on the B vagans?!? It's so smooth looking!
LOL! I was doing that too! He must not hate me too bad because he let me clean the area with a Q-tip (held at the end with very LONG tweezers :D ) and almost seemed as if he knew I was just trying to help. But then again, he was probly trying to get me off guard so he could tag me a good one! {D...
Thanks Wayne :o I was hoping to get some input on this but maybe no one has had this problem but us. I've never had to remove a leg before. I tried to do it as quickly as possible to reduce the stress. I can't say he doesn't hate me now but I wouldn't know if he did anyways. :D
I haven't seen my male T blondi come out for a couple of weeks. Then, yesterday I noticed him at his water bowl. I also noticed his left back leg seemed to have significant injury so that it was bent in an unnatural way. It wasn't bleeding too bad while he remained calm, just seeping...
I don't use glass cleaners unless I remove the T until the glass is completely dry. Otherwise, I use a damp paper towel and give it several wipes to get all of the mineral build up off.
