    TarantulaFest 2005 - Central California

Tarantula Fest in Coarsegold, CA I know there is a Tarantula fest this weekend in Coarsegold, CA. I just heard about it on the local news. Local being here in Fresno CA. Coarsegold is about 30 mins north on Fwy 41 between Fresno and Yosemite. It runs from 11am-3pm or so. I had heard something...

Grand Opening of Fig Garden Exotics in Central CA

I had some trouble locating it with mapquest. But I think I got it I hope. I asked a few friends here in fresno and I was told that the directions mapquest gave me were right on. Which is good because I live right off of the 168 freeway. I know where I'm going to be this coming Saturday.

    Tarantulas from Texas??

My mistake. Grams is in Brownsville, Texas not Plainview. Grandma knows what Tarantulas are just not the names of the different species. She's originally from Monterrey, Mexico and she tells me that when she was a kid she used to catch them where she lived. I'll know for sure in a few weeks when...

Tarantula Venom Can Cause Death Yes or No

My vote on this whole thing is sure why not. Today I was showed my grandma what happened when rosie molted. She thought it was a live T, damn near had a heart attack!! So I figure if grandma had a T run up her leg and bite her could she kick the bucket?? I would say its possible. The toxins in...

    Tarantulas from Texas??

Does anybody know the various types of T's that can be found in Texas? To be specific, the southern part of Texas. The reason I'm asking is that my grandmother is visiting from Plainview, Texas and she was telling me that where she lives she has quite a few around her home. She usually finds one...

    A. seemanni burrowing in captivity

After spending the last 6 months in a flower pot mine finally came out and started digging like crazy. It must be the change in weather. It's now in the 90's around here. All of my T's are coming out more now that I think about it.

    A.Seemani Wierd Behavior ??

Your seemani is probably just doing some pull ups, working out a bit. Could have been looking for a new place to live that had more substrate to dig in.

To dim or not to dim...

Which to me signals that they are doing what they should be doing. Hiding in the day and coming out at night. Sorry I didn't make myself clear.

To dim or not to dim...

I'm with that never keep T's in total darkness thing. Its just too unnatural. I keep mine in natural light. Open a window and let the sun in. I can hear them come out at night when I go to sleep. Its usually around the same time every night. I know alot of people tend to want to isolate a...

cobalt blue from pet store, i thought i would be nice

I was never really fond of keeping my T's in complete total darkness and never letting them see the light. It just seems unnatural to me. If you think about it, would you go hide in a hole or dig one for that matter if it felt like you were already in a hole (complete and total darkness) Just a...

cobalt blue from pet store, i thought i would be nice

I had the same problem when I rescued a cobalt not too long ago from a pet store. This poor little thing had been in a K.K. for four months or so. All it had for substrate was bark. It looked very sad hiding under a log. When the petstore guy opened it up and showed it to me there he was hiding...

    Girly Tarantula?????

What insight, coming from a guy who was probably standing next to his brother/cousin. I'm sorry my apologies, now I am doing the same thing they were doing (sort of) stereotyping. As I type this I hold a bud light in my lap and a burrito in my left hand.

    A seemanni question

My seemani doesn't seem to mind it being a bit moist. She will dig and make balls out of the peat moss. Maybe she is having fun I don't know, its cool to watch though.
