    $975 for a SPIDER?!?

I won't buy stupidly priced spiders on principle. Probably why I seem to have so many slings. Although I do have several sp on my list which I would go above and beyond to get hold of. Highest price I have paid so far was 40.00 pounds for an adult female B boehmei, i fell in love

    Avic avic personalities

I've got quite a few avics of various species and sizes. I have found them all to be docile, but easily startled. Mine are quick when they want to be and don't think twice about jumping. The tiny ones are funny, when i spray their containers they zoom around the sides like its a mini speedway!

Need input, A. metallicas on hunger-strike

I've fed my larger avics moths. I just let waxworms pupate into moths and release them into the tank, it's a hell of a thing to watch them catch it mid flight. Also, i know they are pesticide free. I live in the middle of a city, so wouldn't trust any thing caught, probably full of god...

Avic behavior, need more experianced advice

I've also read that avics are avid webbers and if they don't begin to web their enclosures within a few days of being put it, it can be a bad sign. Thats not a proven fact, but certainly holds true with every avic sling i have ever lost. None of them had put web down in their enclosure. Now the...

Need input, A. metallicas on hunger-strike

I couldn't compare the feeding habits of my avics to my C. cyanopubescens (i assume thats which cyano you meant!) My C cyanopubescens go mental as soon as there are crickets in the tank, stuffing their mouths full of still wriggling crix until they can't fit any more in. On the other hand, I can...

    Adults vs Slings

When i first got "properly" into the hobby (IE when it took over my life! {D ), I was all for buying slings, they are cheaper, you get the happy feeling of raising them into adulthood, its very rewarding. On the other hand, i'm getting into breeding now and been buying more sub adults/adults...

How many full grown Ts could and would you want to keep in your home

Currently i have 79 spiders of various sizes, the vast majority are slings or juveniles, given I expect to lose some along the way and many will become male. I'll still have a quite a few adult females to keep me occupied in two/three years time.

How often do you clean the enclosure POLL

I remove uneaten remains as soon as I spot them and keep the water bowl topped up. I'll give the adult and sub adult tanks a thorough clean after they moult. Aside from that, when i see mould or mites.

    Horrible coupla hours!!!

Exactly the same thing has happened to me a couple of times, once this week, I had a P miranda sling, was waiting for it all morning, went to put the rubbish out and there was a note saying "sorry, you weren't home......." No one had buzzed. Fortunatly, the pick up depot is at the top of my...

Just HOW STRONG can a T be

The only time I've had an escape was when my A.geniculata pushed the wooden top off her tank. I found her on top of the lid, wondering about. To be fair, there was a male in the tank next to her and she's been drumming at him for days. I was waiting for him to build a sperm web. I think she went...

Is the spider sold by distributors as C. thorelli the same as C. schoedtei ?

as far as i have read, the vast majority of C. thorellis in captivity were in actual fact C schioedtei. C.thorelli is not availiable, or extremely rare in the capitive pet trade. C thorelli is supposed to be darker in colouration than C schioedtei. This is what I have read on the net, and not...

    lasiodora klugi vs parahybana

IMO the klugi wins hands down. I think its markings are a lot nicer than a parahybana. I don't really rate parahybanas, think they are a bit boring.Plus klugis aren't 10 a penny like parahybanas {D

    Won't come out!!!!

I've found that my smaller spiders burrow a lot more than their older equivelents. My B smithi juvenile was never ever seen whem it was a sling, then i rehoused it with plenty of substate to burrow if it wanted to but it never did. it seems pretty content to sit out now. same with my B vagans...

how does everybody keep their deceased Ts?

You can preserve them in resin. I read abut it on the ATS website. Basically you get plastic liquid resin and put your dead spider in a flexible mould, and case it in the resin. I've got two in the feezer waiting for this treatment. I can't find a suitable mould though.

    how do you keep track?

I do it two ways. I have a note book with a page for each spider i have to record every date it molts and any interesting behavoiur. I also have a four sheet excel spreadsheet. The first with a listing for all the spiders i currently have. Giving their latin and common names. their sex (if...

    Name your T's!

To be honest, I've got too many to name them. And, i don't really see the point, its not like they are dogs and recoginse their names, so its a bit pointless. That said, some of the ones that have especially endeared themselves to me, or done something that warrants a name. Like a have a...

    Mech.mom brood cups

I've seen a couple of posts from people who were trying to built Schultzs Mechanical mom, but could not find the stacking tackle boxes they describe in the manual. After much searching I've found some. They come under the name "stack pack" It seems the largest they do is 7cm wide, but this has...

    Photographing tarantulas

I've only recently bought a digital camera, and to be honest, the shots i'm getting are poor at best. What do people on here use? I reckon I'll have to upgrade the camera, but can anyone offer any tips? Do you use a tripod or macko lens? Then fiddle with the image on a computer photo...
