    Namibian Sparassidae ID

Yes I know that page. But I am not able to find a description or pic that matches my spider. I have to check my field notes, but if my memory does not fail me, this spider was only sighted by us in a particular area called Röening Pipe, a sort of more 'humid' area with some grasses and the like.

    Namibian Sparassidae ID

Thanks for the links. A lot of info there. The area in which we found the spider is restricted since 99 years ago :) :) :) Courtesy of the Kaiser... But of course, researchers surely did make into the Sperrgebiet to collect specimens.

    Usambara Orange Baboon Tarantula

Mine are slings (around 3,5-4 cm legspan) and they prefer to create web tunnels without really digging into the substrate. They have some wood fragments as 'enclosure furniture' and use them as a starting point to build the nest. They made several entrances and usually rest over their silk...

    Namibian Sparassidae ID

I suspected that it was in fact a new taxon. I will try to find a spider specialist here in Cambridge and also in Madrid, and ask people in Windhoek who maybe are aware of this particular spider. Namibia is a wonderful country; I spend one month per year there working in the Sperrgebiet (I'm a...

    Namibian Sparassidae ID

Thanks. I am not finding much more information or pics except for the White Ladies, not even a good description of a spider similar to this. It seems that I will have to check for some Namibian/South African spider books in Windhoek...

    Namibian Sparassidae ID

Man, next May I am going to put the desert upside down to make a full book of pictures of these guys... :) :)  Lets see if someone can at least identify the genus...

    Namibian Sparassidae ID

I'd say it was around 7 cm legspan, more or less... Really stunning animal, but it is impossible to get permits for sampling them out of the Sperrgebiet. I hope to find more this year, at least I will return with some pics:) :) :) Any hint about the genus or species?

    Anyone Never Handle Their Tarantula?

I don't handle them either. I also look at them like fish; that's the reason why I enjoy decorating the adult T's enclosures.

    Namibian Sparassidae ID

Hi all. This spider is an unknown (for me) Sparassidae from the coastal Namibian desert in the Sperrgebiet area. It was hiding under a rock. Beautiful spider. Anyone knows what species it is? Thanks!
