Any experienced/long timers still not comfortable with Old Worlds?

@lostbrane ask and ye shall receive :D I honestly don't get the focus on OW vs NW. I think people psyche themselves out on OWs and potentially miss out on some great spiders because of it... but like someone elsr said, it isn'f a competition. Keep the spiders you enjoy and are comfortabe with.

    First hand conservation...

I fully strive to NOT purchase wild caught tarantulas. I don't have that desire most people seem to live by - To always have the newest [car, phone, spider, whatever]. It's a joke among my few friends that I am so "behind the times"... but I like it that way. Anyways, to answer the question...

Remember that guy getting an OBT as his first T?

No, I don't remember him because he just went on about his business and didn't feel the need to be a braggart about something wholly unimpressive ;)

    Gravid or Not?

The enclosure looks fine. You'll just have tonwsit and see, I guess!

    H. himalayana Desperate Male - Gets Eaten

Well dang man, that sucks! Fingers crossed he got a good insert before she nommed him. Love this species! Because that is a nice big meal for making an egg sac. What I wonder is why only Latrodectus has been called out on the practice :p

    H.maculata eating... Help dave!

Does the enclosure have plenty of hiding places? If it is all open like in your photos, the T can never get the element of surprise on the locust. H. maculata also do really well with a lot of cover... Trust me, when they bolt - you want them going down into their cover and NOT out of the...

Very Concerned for my Grammostola rosea

We all make mistakes. You did the best you could with the knowledge you had, and in the end reached out for assistance. Your next T will be lucky to have such a compassionate human as well, especially now that you have the resources on the forum at your disposal. The Classifieds section on here...

Found my T. molting in it's water dish.

That is an interesting theory... I honestly have no real idea, but my instincts tell me it would harden regardless of outside moisture content... Either way, all is well that ends well!

    Gravid or Not?

The size of her abdomen has zero to do with stress... She has a VERY large abdomen indeed... She could be full. She could be gravid. If she is climbing and roaming, she isn't happy. Can you post a photo of her full enclosure?

    Weird, but serious, question

No question is ever dumb when you're coming from a genuine place of wanting to learn :) I'd like to add that a) visible mold can be easily taken care of and b) mold can be mostly invisible (but it would have a pungent odor in a bag and this would be due to moisture).

Very Concerned for my Grammostola rosea

Oh no... I was hoping for a positive outcome once I reached the end of this thread! Ts will only go into a "death curl" if they are dehydrated... if she had internal injuries, and since you have been giving her water, your best bet to confirm death is what you've already done - note lack of...

Found my T. molting in it's water dish.

In general, slings float. If she was on her back, she couldn't have drowned. The photo shows a normal T after a molt.

    Fedex shipping issue

That is ridiculous. I am merely pointing out that shipping USPS is illegal and shipping FedEx is not. Again, we are not talking about importing. We are talking about domestic shipping. And no, I don't import Ts. I breed my own or buy from folks breeding their own. So, carry on with encouraging...

    Fedex shipping issue

No, it is not illegal to ship arachnids via FedEx within the country. Brown-boxing is receiving spiders imported into the country without the proper documentation and permits. Which is 100% NOT the same thing as someone in Ohio shipping spiders to someone in California in an "unmarked" box...

    Fedex shipping issue

Don't patronize me. Most of us have already been doing that for YEARS. I'm not one for being dishonest ona regulsr basis, but a little white lie like this when no one is being harmed is necessary. On a side note, if you use a label service like ShipYourReptiles, you can be honest about what...

    Fedex shipping issue

Except he was NOT totally unaware, because he knew he was receiving tarantulas... FedEx is a private courier, so it's only "against their rules" to ship arachnids. USPS is a government entity, so breaking their "rules" is an ILLEGAL federal offense. But please, continue to be cavalier and...

    Fedex shipping issue

Crickets. Always. Say. They. Are. Crickets. You don't want the hassle. Really? Knowingly receiving contraband puts you at fault. It isn't as intense with FedEx because they are a private shipping company and not a government entity, but it can still get you banned from using their services...

    Pulchra attracted to each other

Anyone who has had a mature male and mature female of the species can tell you, yes it can! I have had a MM on one shelf, and a MF respond to his tapping/wandering from three shelves away. When I am preparing to pair spiders, I put both their enclosures on the same shelf and they definitely...

    Pulchra attracted to each other

Why would you think that spiders don't communicate? I have Ts of different species whose enclosures are literally wall-to-wall and they sometimes will do that... it is quite cute lol

Paralyzed T molting, what do I do?

This thread is a HOT friggin mess. @VanessaS is completely in the wrong in congratulating you on this monstrously selfish behaviour. You VERY obviously have a superiority complex. Literally zero reason to do this. They aren't "dog wasps." INCORRECT. Ts molt upright, sideways, whatever...
