I live in central KY on a hill and for long as I lived here the bushes out front our house are populated by tiny spiders that fill them with webs. I recently (yesterday) got a good look at them in the morning, and they are tinyyyy. They appear to share these webs, I saw 8-10 individuals all...
In AR, given your profile info? Thats interesting as heck, I'm nearby in KY, and I have also seen tiny trapdoors under rocks on two occasions, but I wasn't in the position to be able to dig them up.
Yes, and they also eat house centipedes (Scutigera). The first time I found a large female in my garage, she had previously killed and ate a wolf spider much larger than herself. I found another recently and they had a large centipede webbed up and drained below their web. Its pretty remarkable...
After some online research, apparently Triangulosa are the most aggressive of all Steatoda. This makes sense, mine is very eager for prey and voracious eating 2 large meals only days apart.
I'm having trouble figuring out which one of these I have, does anyone have any tips? thank you
Okay so I am fairly sure I have a triangulosa on my hands. Im a little disappointed, I wanted a nobilis/grossa because they allegedly get bigger lol. The triangle markings are pretty obvious.
My young female Steatoda has ate 2 pinhead crickets in the past week, and 1 a week before that. Her abdomen literally looks close to bursting. Is it possible to overfeed/kill them with overfeeding? Gonna hold off a week or two for the next feeding.
I noticed since my AFS made his first burrow a few months ago, when hes done eating a cricket he spits it up into this brownish ball with legs in it and deposits it up outside his burrow, almost like hes house keeping lol. Then the springtails go crazy on the remains. Do yalls scorpions do this too?
I went on a dive on youtube yesterday about widows and I came across one of my sucscribed channels "MyWildBackyard" he does nature and animal videos, and many vids where he (stupidly) provokes a spider to bite him. I watched his red widow video and what stands out to me, it seemingly calmly...
My house became colonized with Steatoda last spring, and I've seen some massive females. I have a pretty tiny one I've been keeping, nowhere near as big as the biggest females I've seen, and today I saw she laid a sac!! Is this normal for ones this small? Do they reach sexual maturity that fast...
DKS is almost always fatal. I lost my entire first collection to it. $500 of Ts. No one knows for sure what causes it, the most likely is some kind of poisoning.
