Yes, very much like the picture except all her legs were curled.
Maybe she was practicing tarantula calisthenics ;)
Seriously, it turns out it seems that I was worried for no reason.
So much to learn about these creatures...the mystery of it all... :?
It is a few hours after my first post. I just took a look at her and see that she is eating another cricket (one of the eight that I threw in there yesterday that must have been hiding). I am wondering now whether she was previously curled around the cricket waiting for it to move so she could...
Last night I fed my Ts some crickets and my G.aureostriata ate about eight of them, with her usual hearty appetite.
This morning as I was checking on my Ts I noticed that my G.aureostriata had her legs all curled up under her. Knowing that this is the "death pose" I was worried, so I...
g.aureostriata hands down
My G.aureostriata is my biggest eater; once she ate two pinkys at once because my B.smithi wouldn't eat hers.
I must say though, that I feed my Ts every few weeks or so. I try to duplicate what would happen in the wild, for example, letting time go by with no food...
Thanks so much!
Thank you, all of you, for your advice.
There were some excellent points made.
I have decided to keep my GBB and buy a King Baboon
later on.
Thanks again, each one of you.
good housekeeping
My GBB also webs quite a bit. When I throw in crickets I can't see her eat them; however, I have noticed that she pushes the dead cricket carcasses out into the open if she doesn't eat them, so then I can get them out with my long tweezers.
I appreciate her good...
I have a 6" (+/-) C cyanopubescens (aka Greenbottle blue). She is quite beautiful, but because of all her webbing I can't see her as often as I would like to.
There is a store close to me that has 6" (+/-) C crawshayi (aka King Baboon) they are asking $160 for, and a smaller one 3" +/- for...
lots of webbing
Yes, fast they are!
My only complaint is she has webbed so much of her container that I can't see her very well. I heard so much about how they are such good display tarantulas, but not mine. Another thing, mine is very shy. :o
Quite beautiful though...
"plink" and "bam"
I am pretty sure she is a female. When she moulted I checked and did see a ridge above the book lungs (forget what the scientific name is).
She was always so docile. I had posted about her earlier, that she didn't eat for six months before she moulted. She had also holed...
I think 68 or 70 would work fine.
Mine are all kept at room temperature and are thriving.
I used to have a A.anax spiderling and she escaped out of the critter keeper...still miss her.
It is hard to keep up with all the scientific names, don't feel bad. I always have to look everything up...
I have my very large G.aureostriata in a 15 gallon tank with a metal mesh top. The other day while I was online I heard a loud "plink" and saw that she was upside down hanging from the screen. I went over there to see if she was stuck and saw that she had pushed one of her very large fangs...
gentle lovers
I seem to recall reading somewhere that G.aureostriata females are not as likely to harm the males during mating (may have read it on this board).
different drum
As much as you want to see her, leave her alone. She will come out when she is ready. Depending on how big she is, it could be a month or more before she eats again.
My big Chaco didn't eat for six months, and spent several of those months sealed up in her hide. Then almost...
my two cents...
I top off the water dishes every day or so.
I pick up food boluses, avic window poop, moults and cricket pieces as soon as I see them.
As long as the substrate is kept dry and the above tasks are done on a regular basis, I see no need to "clean" the enclosure.
I think too...
Thank you so much!
Whew. I am so relieved. If it wasn't for you guys, I would still be worrying about "LambChop", my big girl. {D
As you suggested, I looked at the picture on the website again, and I see a white spot near the leg, which is the parasite, not the abdomen spot.
And I...
