I totally just realized I forgot to include the invert pics in this post.... There are a lot of neat Hogna sp. down there. I'm fairly certain one bit me in the cheek in my sleep, I have nice sized bite shaping up right now. Shawnee is the Shawnee National Forest. It spans a few states in...

    Herping the Ouachitas

Herping the Ozarks I recently had the distinct pleasure of sharing a camp with some great guys, who herp. We descended on some land in the Ozarks owned by my fiend Matt. We worked our butts off for what would usually seem meager results, but it is August. For many hours we put out a...

    a few amphibians

Well, they are small, but Long! Hence the name Longicauda. Ambystomids are more robust, but a much tougher find when it's hot out.

The yellow sallie is a Long Tailed Salamander Eurycea longicauda , they're common in clean, rocky streams in the Midwest. I would say this one was a largish adult maybe 7". thanks for all the kind words guys Justin

    a few amphibians

I decided recently that I didn't always want to lug 40 lbs around while herping. No, I didn't lose that much weight... Anyway, my DSLR gear is ridiculously heavy, so sought out to get a Point and Shoot. I checked out the Olympus Stylus tough series, and settled on the 8000 something or...

    Frog Tails

I decided that since I retired from doing fireworks professionally that I wanted to do something fun for the 4th. I did shows for 17 years and quit this year, to enjoy other things (like fingers). I headed to Iowa to see a good buddy and hang out. I think I got some water splashed on my...

    Hogna

I was out the other day looking for Dragonflies, and flipping stones to see what was hiding under them. I came up with three Hogna sp. carrying their brood. It's not much but I thought the pics were interesting. Crummy shot of a dragonfly... I hope you enjoy the pics...

    Minnesota Zoo pix

Nice shots in here. I was a little shocked that you did so well with a 150mm on those cats. They must have been fairly close to you. I like to take my 70-300mm to the zoo usually. It has a good bokeh, and versatile reach. Justin

    C. sculpturatus - Brood #2

I would like some. I had around 12, and now I have 8. Two females dropped babies, and ate them all. I gave them the same setup you're doing too. Critter keepers with all kinds of little hides. Let me know when you're thinking of shipping them. I'll be happy to have a few. Justin

    Last two herping trips.

Yes they are dangerous, but not deadly. He's being irresponsible by handling them in this manner. It's typical of young guys. I did it until I paid the price by a more dangerous member of this family. I now only observe, and take pics with as little harassment as possible.
