starving to death does seem like a bit worse of a death to me than humane euthanasia with co2 but perhaps i'm pushing human values on an invertebrate species.
please don't even joke about such a thing on a public forum right now lol with what is going on in florida and all, that could way be taken the wrong way. Advocating deliberate release of an invasive species right now is just throwing gasoline on the fire.
I think this thread has jumped the shark. Perhaps attempting to feed a daddy long legs to a T was poor judgement on the posters part, but i think he has been beaten into submission in this thread poor judgement should not lead to this kind of browbeating, perhaps in the future a gentler approach...
parasites are always a concern but i would be willing to wager if we ever put smears from the intestinal systems of the crickets we buy that are commercially farmed we might go catch some in the wild. I would almost wager you would find higher concentrations of parasites in farmed crickets than...
I'm in the way happier when it is bigger camp on this one. Almost get a feeling of being taken advantage of when an animal is smaller than represented whereas larger is a bonus so to speak.
yeah i'm curious too never had a roach issue, a lot of people use that as the selling point for roaches (unlikely to prey upon those they are intended to feed) frankly i've never been much a believer in that roaches are 100% safe as i've watched a tub of lobster roaches devour a full grown rat...
Inverts are rarely covered here under animal cruelty statues and the last thing the exotic pet trade needs is more bad publicity and bad p.r. so i would have to really think before i went to the authorities in any way there a too many cases of these things being used for yet more momentum to...
Usually when that happens i just make up my own bizarre untrue facts like "did you know if you feed them crickets with gold dust on them they will actually crap gold nuggets?"
anyone ever tried raising humidity tolerant T's in heated hatchling racks like the ones jason's jungle makes? I would think it would be a good space efficient way to do it? not great visually speaking as the tubs are cloudy but would think you could house some T's that way.
this is over 10-12 hours
nothing gets left but bones and eventually they probably would consume those. I think lobster roaches need more protein than we commonly give them credit for my largest roaches are at least a third larger than before i put them on the...
I don't feed a lot of mice too much mess the only thing that gets mice is my T. Blondi's. My lobster roach colony does get an occassional large dead rat which they usually skeletonize within 10 hours or so.
cool topic, but I wouldn't breed it any more than I would breed a bug eyed leopard gecko or any other species with a physical abnormality (wait better stop there, couldn't one consider albinoism, axanthic, leucistic ect abnormalities?) even so if it is actually a physical abnormality rather that...
I've had very few T's that wouldn't eat roaches right off the bat. I do have two very stubborn b. vagans that insist on crickets that i just cannot break them.
for me it is clearly an obsession, but a good one. When you are sacrificing other parts of your life for your hobby it definately borders on obsession (i.e. rarely go on vacation due to not being able to find someone to watch over my collection ect.)
