    Needed help ,too late now.

Sorry for your loss. I hope you have better luck with any other Ts you might have.

How much research did you do before getting your Tarantula/s?

My first tarantula was back in high school, and I did little or no research at the time. I probably just asked my biology teacher for information, if I remember correctly. There wasn't a lot of information available in the late 60s-early 70s, but since then I have researched various species...

    collecting only certain tarantulas.

So far my collection is mostly Aphonopelma spp. from Texas, simply because that's what I come across in my treks afield. I also have a few other new world Ts, and their urcitating hairs do bother me, especially from my LP. They didn't used to, but I understand that sensitivity to them kind of...

    I counted. :-/

My son recently bought me an Avicularia avicularia, my first arboreal. At first I was hesitant about keeping anything except our local Aphonopelma, but now that I've had this one a few months, I could see myself raising more of these fun little Ts. I have mine in the same setup as in your...

    My New Addi(c)tions

Pretty Ts, and I really like your setups. What I really like though is the clever title of this thread!

Avicularia Purpurea won't eat cricket pieces

I wouldn't worry about it. Just be careful about putting a live cricket in there. If your T does molt it is very vulnerable, and a hungry cricket might find it to be an easy snack. Good luck with it.

    Naming your Tarantula

Only one of the 25 Ts I am now taking care of has a name. It is my first. Her name is Fang. The reason she has a name is because she was a class pet in my elementary classroom when I was teaching. The students in my classes insisted on naming her, so I let them choose a name. They all made...

    Dubia Colony Justified?

    B. dubia are definitely the way to go. They are easy to care for and reproduce well and often. One thing you can do to control their numbers is to separate the males as soon as you notice them (They have wings as opposed to the wingless females). What I do for slings & juvies is to take the...

    E-bay Tarantulas? ??? :/

eBay is very vague on their information concerning the selling of live animals. From the way I read their guidelines, tarantulas would not be allowed, as it says: "...pets and most other live animals can't be listed..." and in their listing of restricted critters, there is no mention of Ts. One...

    Favorite prey item

My favorite prey item is B. dubia. Most of my Ts favorite food item is crickets, but they rarely get them. If I had a 10-gallon bucket full of crickets, that's what they'd get more often, but alas, I have a 10-gallon bucket full of roaches.

    I think I have a problem.

Welcome to the addiction, Lexx. My most recent bout started with a G. rosea from a flea market several years ago. Stick around AB. It's surprising what you can learn here. There are a lot of people with a lot of knowledge, and thankfully they are willing to share it.

    May your barking spider rip.

    when should i worry

I've had my G. rosea 4-5 years, and it's eaten maybe 10 times, possibly less. It still looks in great shape, and hasn't shed since I got it.

    Just curious

I was probably about 10-12 when I held my first T. It was a native WC Aphonopelma sp. that my brother and I had found near our home. That got me very interested and whenever I came across a T either in the wild or in captivity, I would try to handle it. I don't feel like I have to handle them...

    Loud employees at LPSs

You should contact the owner and tell him what you heard. I would either do that in person or in a letter. It sounds to me like he should fire the employees and hire the volunteers (at least some of them & maybe not the guy who was hitting on you).

Couple new photos of my spider room!

What lens did you use to shoot those? Nice wide angle shots. Oh, great looking room too by the way.

    Mounting in a shadow box

I'm not sure about what to attach it with, but for something to attach it to, I would use foam-board, or something similar. You can find it at hobby stores, and maybe even at Wally-World. Cut it to size so it fits in the shadow box. If it were me, I would try some kind of epoxy to attach it...

    My new B. smithi "Kissa"

I have 2 B smithi Ts, and they both kick hairs whenever I open their cages to feed or water them. Then again, I've seen some that were very docile & never kicked hairs. It's like has been said, each one is gonna be different.

My 2 new reptiles, Bearded Dragon and a Corn Snake!!

I'm not a big beardie fan, but it looks like you got a nice looking individual. Now the Okeetee, that is one beautiful snake, nice dark colors. I would have to say that's my favorite color of all the corn snakes, and I have seen some rare and beautiful ones. Great pair of reptiles!
