Nice! I did get pedelings on two(?) occasions but failed because of neglect the first time and temperature spikes(I presume) the 2nd time. I think you're on the right track keeping them cool and moist. Outside of that, as long as they have a food source as has been offered and material to...
Hey, look at that! They look well developed. Any idea how many were produced? I hope they make it through to adulthood and continue the cycle. Good luck!
I've had mixed experiences with Asian centipedes lately. More often than not they do not go through the entire process before I get impatient and separate them. Of four recent pairings only once has a spermatophore been produced. That clocked in at over 2 hours from introduction to...
Erin, no, haven't had that one for some time now. I can't remember for sure but that would have likely come from either Madera Canyon area or Ruby Rd. I have a feeling it was the latter, in a riparian zone. I've never even heard of that genus! I wish I would have kept better records as there...
The Serradigitus, which I thought was juvenile, reproduced 4 whole offspring LOL.
Sorry, I don't recall what happened with the Arenivaga. If I kept them then they must have perished and they'd now be sitting in alcohol somewheres in my stash.
He stepped away to coax her back when I took that pic. She came back through but only partially picked it up. Could be good but I'm going to pair them again just in case.
Male heros will have obvious protuberances at 11 and 1 o'clock on the genitals. That is the easiest way to distinguish male from female. Here's a link to a good photo of both sexes:

Visually from a glance? If in AZ the color variations of heros are rather distinct...run a search through bugguide for AZ and Scolopendra heros and then polymorpha and you'll see what I mean. I don't think I've seen a variant outside of those listed for heros in that state. Only from...
The poly. Even within AZ alone I've seen a number of variations. Same goes for heros. There is also viridis(or was in H. marginata?) in AZ, but more northerly.
Based merely on observations in my own tank I've only witnessed mating in individuals longer than roughly 7". Whether or not recent pedelings came from observed matings I'm not sure as I have long term captive females and some that were acquired within the past year or so.
Chris, I was just reading a comment yesterday about centipedes from a long time importer of hot snakes...he wouldn't go near them because of their nebulous creepiness and reported bite effects. Never mind that he was messing about with kraits, Crots and everything in between. I guess is irony...
I'm no chilo-coroner but I would guess that there was an internal blockage or infection. Since the business end of the animal was first to darken that was probably where the problem was. This seems to be common in mystery deaths. Often the animal will seem to loose control of the first few...
