In this case, the Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo)
Short version: when the bird flys so close to the ground that the wing tips brush the snow...well, there you go!
I have couple other pics that will expand on this concept...
I come in contact with it on a frequent basis myself. I wear long pants and avoid the fresh sap. I havent had a reaction in ~25 years.
Would I grap a handful and use as TP? --Not a chance.

A few months ago, the same friend gifted me a big beautiful female regalis that I had sold him some time back! I'll post a recent pic in the Poecilotheria thread later.
It was quite comfortable with me being there. I first noticed it collecting food about 3 yards/meters away from me like this:
When I decided to change my lens, it scampered up the tree, perched itself on the knot, and watched as in the pic in #1
yeah, it's just a squirrel. but an example of what happens when you're out in the wild being mellow, and the animals come out and do their business as usual.
I hope I'm somewhat on-topic here, but locally there have been numerous sightings of mountain lions for a couple of years. Both in town, and Statewide (Iowa).
