When I got back into terrestrial tarantulas again I had a 1/2" B. vagans shipped to me. Such a charming species, I find them underrated. I like almost any Brachypelma though, I'm sure if it is a B. albiceps you'll still find it entertaining.
There is no "boring animal", but there's no point in getting an animal you don't want either. For any forum and for any animal there's always this stigma of 'what the cool kids have'. Understanding and accepting the risks that come with that animal while keeping the animal and everyone else safe...
I find a water dish easier for arachnids personally as well. I think many arachnids might have issues collecting enough moisture from gels, but I may be thinking too out-of-the-box there.
If it has been working for the OP, I'll not say anything against it. Not something I'll do as it seems...
I'm not against/pro gel crystals. I do wonder: if there actually is a risk of scorpions consuming the gel then wouldn't there be a risk of crickets consuming the gel and therefore prey items for the scorpions?
I haven't actually looked into this, I wonder if there's any research out there...
I use a room heater to keep up the temperature but if he's using an under tank heater it's best to put it on the side. Never liked heat lamps for inverts. Ventilation is important but too much ventilation can be a nuisance too. Neat scorpions, not easy to come by anymore.
I've always thought these were interesting but never had the pleasure of owning them. When I thought about getting them someone else was looking to give away their gourami. I didn't think the gourami and tetras would do well together so that ended that. Afterward I sort of got out of fish. Don't...
Neat. I have a 2 yr rule for tattoos as well. Eventually I'll get a tattoo of an Avic; I've never been arachnophobic. I had no opinions on tarantulas till I happened across an Avic in its cage one day, then I fell in love with them.
I may not know their names but everything is labeled with a 'name', species, and gender.
I go for cute and food related: Sparkles, Muffin, Truffles, Fluffy, etc
Same for fish.
I guess they're my pets, or part of a collection. I don't think it matters how you look at it as long as everything...
I would probably bury it so the head sticks out and use non toxic glue over any sharp areas if I put it in a tarantula's cage. But, that's just me. It is a cute ornament. If I already had a fish tank, I'd probably prefer it with the fish.
My local Lowes used to sell 'venus fly traps' all the time. They still might if all I know. I've seen them in local nurseries and rarely in reptile expos.
Heh, and I thought I was the only one who has transported snakes, scorpions and spiders in their purse before
That's a serious advantage to have at expos.
I've got several native wolf spiders who have been living with me a few months. Is it safe to release them this time of yr or would the weather change be an issue? Right now it's been in the 50-60s during the day and down to 40s at night.
Probably a dumb question but they have been at 76F...
I was more ambiguous towards spiders for years. Never thought about owning a tarantula nor did I have a phobia. One day I was picking up food foy my bearded dragon and seen an enclosure with a pink toe tarantula at my LPS. Did some research and knew I had to have one. I've had various different...
I thought this was common sense. Using 'hey you' or 'question' as a title for your E-mail isn't very intuitive either.
Then again sometimes I cannot understand what people are trying to write on social media. Nor do I try to, if it isn't clear what you're saying then that's a serious problem...
At least there's not ants in your pants ;)
Haven't got a new arboreal in a while. Every spider has already done their thing :) My coolest webber right now is my H. incei in terms of how much the enclosure is webbed.
I have no trouble believing this sadly. I've been told cobalt blue tarantulas make great first tarantulas since their bite isn't worse than a bee sting.
While an isolation chamber might be convenient I think space would be an issue for me. I've developed my own way of getting fast arboreals...
