Had to do a late spring cleaning in the barn so I snapped some pics of the different spiders that were hanging around.....Not quite sure what the first one is but theres plenty of them.. Had a cricket infestation with all of the rain here lately so my 8 legged friends are abundant..
Last week I found a Wolf spider living in my garage, theres actually hundreds of them, but this one was a bit different. It was about 3" in diameter and its first two legs were black as night and twice as thick as its rear legs.
I was frustrated with my tractor and in no mood to take pics but I...
I don't handle them much for that very reason, however, on occasion I do coherse them onto my hand for relocation. They are ALWAYS getting into the house, getting into my truck, I even keep one in my critter keeper with my 1/4" crix(it actually found its way on its own in my pinhead container)...
Don't get offended bud, I was'nt coming down on you. You actually posted your correction just before I commented.
I was actually refering to the thread that was started a couple months ago where they ARE trying to change the genus of the species Cristata from Lasiodora to Chromatapelma.......
Are the males typically less defensive than the females? I have one thats probably 4.5 " (its seldom out so I dont know its exact size or sex) and I was expecting something with an attitude. Ive had it bout 6 months now and dig it out every so often, its only struck at the brush twice. Once when...
Brian, that molt looks slightly larger than the quarter. That being the case Im guessing your GBB is well over 1 inch. It should be more than capable of handling a Med - Lg cricket. Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens are voracious eaters and if your still worried about it just take a pair of scissors...
B emilia top out at 5-6 inches (according to the caresheets). If you read the Tarantulas Keepers Guide (by Stan Schultz) it has a picture of a Brachypelma emilia on a ladies hand (It was huge!) , they said it weighed 1.8 oz. I did'nt catch the length (or of they even mentioned it) but it did...
I have to agree with Diane on this one. I have a 6" B albopilosum in a hexagon tank that has a hole in the lid for feeding and she stays perched in the corner of the tank where the hole is, waiting for dinner to drop in. As a matter of fact she'll litterally take the cricket out of my hand. I...
Arboreal: Aviculara are GREAT!
Terresterial: Id recommend the Brachypelma albopilosum , Grammostola aureostriata or maybe even Eupalestrus campestratus (all are docile and would be excellent choices!).
On my last order I bought a female 3" L parahybana and a 1/4" Brachy vagans. That was 6-8 mos ago... As of now the L para is close to 5-1/2 and the Vagans is ALMOST 1/2". And that my friend looks like a Vagans sling...
I have about 20 tarantulas and keep my crickets in kritter keepers. About 6 months ago I noticed my pinheads were disappearing quite rapidly. Turns out I had a stow-away (a little jumper).. So I moved it to the larger cricket cage where it still resides. My presence doesnt seem to bother it when...
