    Tarantula give-away

My guaranteed female B. Emilia molted last week....she is now a he complete with "boxing gloves" and hooks. Also, I have an immature male B. vagans at around the 3.75" mark. Both of these spiders (plus enclosures) are available to a good home free of charge. If you want 'em, you'll need to...

    Male B. vagans characteristics?

He, like pretty much all my spiders choose to molt when I'm away. When I get back, they're dust.

    Male B. vagans characteristics?

I've been raising a B. vagans now for around 18 months. The little fellow was not even the size of my thumb nail when I first it. It is now pushing the four inch mark and very leggy in comparison with my female B. smithi who's probably around the 3.5" mark. For such rapid growth and recognisably...

    Why is it BLUE??????

Yes, remove any live prey items and don't try to feed for a week after molt. Oh, and dont worry when (s)he flips upside down, this is normal in the molting procedure. Make sure there is a supply of fresh water since molt is very dehydrating for tarantuals. Best of luck, and enjoy the results.

    My "first" molt....

That was very cool indeed! She's just about fully out and is still all "folded" up. I'd estimate that the whole procedure took around twelve hours. I hope to be able to get a picture of her but she's very camera shy.

    My "first" molt....

After several years of keeping tarantulas, I'm finally going to get to observe my first big molt. I have previously observed my B. smithi molt but only at the two inch size. The rest of the molts have all occured when I've been away travelling. Well, my large female N. chromatus who has been in...

Reason you got into spiders POLL

I was at a very impressionable age when Alice Cooper released "Welcome To My Nightmare" in 1975. I was facsinated by the song "The Black Widow" and my interest was hatched there and then and has been nurtured ever since.

Spider who like to be touch?

Surely, if the spider in question felt in any way threatened by the "stroking", the first thing it would do would be to move away? There's nothing that I can see which is preventing the spider taking just two steps to get away from the finger. It's a great little clip and begs answers to many...
