    Emp not lookin' too good

Scorpions in general do not live very long after they reach adulthood. Every WC emp that I have purchased as an adult has never lasted more than a year. You conditions seem fine. Just the way it goes sometimes.

could or should a scorpion missing two legs be bred?

Did she lose the leg after the molt? Could be possible that she has mycosis. A pic would be better to tell. As far as I know though, scorps can breed no problem regardless of how many legs they have.

    Setup advice?

Keep the temps in the 80's and the humdity around the same. Congrats and good luck with the new scorp!

Still alot more expensive than your average play sand, but I have not seen cheaper colored sand than this. Thanks!

    Packing Advice

We are just speaking from experience. I have personally raised/bred/shipped this species with success and zero deaths. You asked for advice and this is what I would do if I were you. This is the best way IMO

    First Scorp!

Do not use water crystals. Using water in a bottle cap is fine. Even an occasional mist would be good from time to time. Way to often people keep there desert scorps dry as bones and they end up dying because of it and people have no idea why. :wall:

    Packing Advice

There's your first mistake. Young instars NEED humidity to help with the molting process. But since you are shipping them I won't get into it. Place some paper towel at the bottom of the container you are using to hold the scorp and mist it a few times. Places the scorp in, and then place...

    Help! baby Desert Hairies!!!

Humidity needs to be slighty higher for young instars to help with the molting process. Best way to do this is to just mist the sides of the enclosure and let the water trickle down to the substrate. With temps in the 80's humidity will rise a little bit. A spray or two once a week should be...

    black light usage

Scorpions can go months without food. Feeding depends on a variety of factors. How fast you want them to grow, if they are male/female, if they are preg. or not. It's really all your preference. A good rule of thumb is to throw some crickets in, and if they are still alive after 24 hours...

    Help! baby Desert Hairies!!!

Once they have molted to 2nd instar, which it seems they have if they are off mom's back, I would put them on normal substrate instead of a paper towel. I feed my young instars about twice a week, and spray the sides on the enclosure with water about once a week. With temps in the 80's you...

    best burrowing substrate?

Excavator clay worked pretty well for me as well. I guess you just have to find the right mix. Another method that I have heard of but never tried was to wet the sand and pack it down tightly, and then bake it. Like I said, I have personally never done it, but I heard it works pretty well.

    black light usage

This question gets asked all the time. Pretty much, leaving a blacklight on all day long will def. harm the scorp in the long run. I, like most people, use blacklights at night when I check up on them or want to show them off. Usually never on for more than 10 minutes or so. If you go that...

Shipping to someone OUTSIDE the US...

Yeah, I am aware of the legality issues. I guess what I am asking is that no matter the country being shipped to and from, is scorps are packed the way they are when people send them within the US (quietly? I guess) can the same method be used to go international?

    Help! baby Desert Hairies!!!

What are the conditions you are currently keeping them at? Once the conditions are right, all you can do is try and feed them pre-killed crickets or mealworms until they eat. Consider your self extremely lucky, I have not come across one person who has bred these guys in captivity. Even...

Shipping to someone OUTSIDE the US...

So, I have a feeling I am going to get flamed for this, but I thought I would ask anyway! :D As we are well aware, the way scorpions are shipped within the US to and from each other, isn't exactly (well I won't say illegal) the way the Post office would like us to ship them. Meaning 99% of...

    communal?

All scorps are communal until ones gets eaten. :D It's all trial and error. Keep them well fed and provide lots of hides and you will minimize your risk.

Getting started with scorpions and T's

It is normal for you emp to try and climb corners on the tank. Especially when they are new to the enclosure. Mine would practically stand up on its tale and bang its claw against the glass, keeping me up all night! :wall: Also, scorpions are extremely sensitive and almost completely blind...
