Thanks for the replies! So she's Hogna species for sure, probably helluo or georgicola? The few pictures I've seen of H. helluo underside, the underside of the abdomen is light colored, are they all like that? Because mine is solid dark colored. I can't find any pictures of coloradensis...
A while ago I posted about my wolf spider who had slings. Now that the babies are moved to new containers I had a chance to get some decent pics of her. I was hoping someone could tell me what species she might be? Or at least narrow it down to genus? She was collected in St. Louis area...
Thank you Dave! They are not dispersing much yet, although some of them have crawled off mom.
Ah, but what if I want to waste my time separating them? ;) Not right away, I couldn't possibly separately house all those slings. But maybe after their numbers go down just a bit from...
Seriously guys, any tips at all would be helpful. I'm pretty clueless on the details of raising slings! ;)
When I took that first picture the babies weren't near done emerging, now she is covered in them, it's amazing to see. I fed the mom and the babies really swarmed around. Looked like...
I've had this wolf spider for a couple of months and she laid a sac. I'm not sure what species she is. I didn't know whether the sac could be fertile because I had her for quite a while before she laid it.
But I just checked on her and she's covered with tiny slings! {D I'm so excited...
Yes we shall take over the world with our army of enhanced spiders! Muahahaha!
I only wish I could fine more P. audax. in my area. I haven't seen any since the sac I got my four from. Various orb weavers, wolfs, and recluses everywhere, but my favorites, the jumpers, are few and far...
Actually, that is why I prefer roaches. Crickets jump. I have lost so many crickets in my house. I'm sure they are helping to support the L. reclusa population in my basement. :wicked:
However I haven't lost a roach yet. Sometimes I let them crawl on my hand for fun, they're neat. And...
You speak the truth oh wise master! :worship:
Seriously, already got the roaches. But unfortunately it's going to be a long time before my colony is established. So in the mean time I'd like to get my crickets to breed so I don't have to keep buying them.
My G. rosea is very possessive of her water dish. Whenever I fill it up she viciously attacks the water for daring to enter her domain! Then she realizes it's water and stalks away all offended because her little feet got wet. She's a nut case.
But really I think just the movement/vibration...
jynxxxedangel, I find your selective breeding of P. audax very interesting! I have some that I am seriously considering breeding when they mature. I also have an interest in genetics. Too bad we don't live anywhere near each other, we could help each other out with breeding projects. I won't...
I don't have a problem keeping my crickets alive, but I can't seem to breed them. I've been trying for months and only had one random batch of eggs hatch. What are you guys doing to get your eggs to hatch?
I think I might have heard somewhere of activated charcoal absorbing smells? Not sure. Or you could just do what I do and burn incense to cover up odors.
I just recently got some roaches. One of the reasons I got them is because of all the rave reviews about them not smelling as...
I found this tiny spider on my basement wall.
Measuring with legs stretched out it's just over 1/4 inch.
Am I right in thinking it is a very young wolf spider Rabidosa sp?
I fed it a fruit fly and it went nuts webbing around the fly before eating it. I never saw one do that...
I'm not worried about having too many. I can always sell or separate the extras. My collection is always growing besides.
I am going to have to work out some way of heating them. I don't like having them in my room anymore because they smell. And I don't think it's warm enough in my room...
I think this is an absolutely brilliant idea. It would be a great resource for both the individual and the community at large. I'd very interested in signing up once it gets rolling.
Well not eating in six days in and of itself is nothing unusual, since generally Ts don't need to eat more than once a week. Although slightly more often for slings. How big is your B. vagans?
Congrats on having the sac hatch! I will share my observations of my P. audax that might help you decide what to do.
I kept an eye on the mother and her slings outside after they hatched, for a while all the babies stayed in the webbing and the mother stayed with them, guarding them. The...
