What are some true communal tarantula species?

No one has mentioned h. incei. I've seen communal set ups with multiple generations and multiple adults trending to and feeding slings.

Comment by 'ShellsandScales' in media 'Cyclosternum sp from peruvian andes anbody know what species it is'

I know this is an older post but I certainly wouldn't consider cyclosternum a dwarf genus

Comment by 'ShellsandScales' in media 'Saw this large T on a hike outside my house'

I would recommend if you want to breed tarantulas to buy captive bred and grow them up instead of robbing a poor mother t from her burrow, especially a gravid or sack bearing female, and depleting the natural population. Why do you think many mexican species are becoming quite endangered??

Did you hybridize this spider or purchase it that way?

    WARNING-California AB1122 Hearing on Wednesday 5/6/09

Less law is better. Why not enforce the laws we have instead of always making a new ones. The other thing I never understand is why is it such a taboo for a non native animal to establish itself in a new environment and compete with the local animals?? This has been going on for millions of...

    WARNING-California AB1122 Hearing on Wednesday 5/6/09

I am completely sick of these jerks constantly threatening to shut down the livelyhood of thousands of americans. Will someone please just burn the HSUS to the ground already and put them out of our missery,(j/k sort of). They are going to keep trying and will likely eventually succeed...

    Exciting Hatch today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I was almost really bummed out but then got an amazing surprise. We got two eggs from one of my girls about 8 weeeks ago. Then two weeks later one of the eggs fell out. My guess is it wasn't good to begin with being her first batch and all. Well, I was quite nervous about the other egg for a...

    Can You Mix Geckos?

Plus a lot of geckos can be territorial. Its usually not a good idea. However, if you are well informed, have weighed the risks, and are very attentive to the needs of the individual species, don't let us stop you from experimenting.

    Cyriocosmus elegans

Male and female I have had for several months now and male matured just a few days ago. First attempt last night about 5pm.. They went to it very quickly. Total time was less then 10 minutes. Very little drumming, just enough for them to see each other. Very hard to observe insertions on such...

Question About Ideal Water Source for Spiderling

Ditto. They will get moisture from their food but even if they are eating it can get too dry and the lack of humidity can cause molting problems especially with a tiny sling that is going to be molting more often than an adult. On the other side, there is also such a thing as too moist, and...

my slings are hiding from me!

I have several slings that are constantly hidden. I have lost one out of many but it is best to leave them be and just not worry about it. You are more likely to disturb them during a molt or accidentally crush them trying to look for them. I have an A. hentzi that I got in october as an egg...

has anyone heard of/ seen this before?

More likely than following food supply, if this is an actual occurance, is that it is a bunch of males following the pheramones of a female. That is really the only reasonable explination I can think of causing the behavior. If they were following a food source they would likely just attack and...

    T that women prefer?

My wife loves most T's but pretty sure Aviculara is her favorite genus. My guess is that aviculara is likely the genus preferred by women by a wide margin.

    aggressive webbers.

In my experience Chiliobrachys fimbriatus (or Indian violet for the layman) is one of the heaviest webbers around. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet!?!

    Eating every 1-2 days.

I power fed my adult female chilean rose. The only reason I did was even with two feedings weekly she ate two males in as many weeks. So I fed her one adult discoid roach every day until she refused food because I didn't want to loose my third male. It took nearly two months for her to decide...

    crickets

That is very amazing and is only working because you have pinheads. Do not try to keep crickets in the original bag. Just put them in a tall glass jar with no lid (for pinheads and a lid with holes for larger crix) and give them a small bit of carrot or potato to munch. That will provide...

    New sling enclosure idea

Great idea robc! I like to use the gerber plastic baby food containers but I don't have any friends w/ infants so I only get them once in a great while. Also I like to use the applesauce/fruit cups that my wife gets for water dishes. They are the perfect size for t's 2" and up. I like to recycle...
