Remember, in the wild they sort these things out for themselves. The difference being that when you let a cricket or similar into a small terrarium, it'll keep bugging the spider. Remove it if the spider is not ready. :)

Are you pressing the button lightly for a few seconds before taking the pic? You need to do that in order to give the camera time to focus. The macro setting(s) should be explained in the manual. :)
