    Reptile Expo.

Nice choices. You probably know a H. lividum stays in a burrow most the time right? But when they are full adults, the females are beautiful and impressive. I really have enjoyed raising avics and the Poeci, species. I haven't been to a reptile expo since I moved to Mississippi. I have to go to...

captive spider looks like it is truly a brown recluse

Thankyou for your reply. We've kept black widows for yrs so I think we are experienced enough. No kids in the house either. This one is not full grown yet, but is getting bigger. Its abdomen was shriveled at first, but since its filled out, it seems to be normal size now. It has not tried to...

captive spider looks like it is truly a brown recluse

My daughter came home from a friends house trailer here in Missisippi with a spider she thought was a huntsman spider. I knew looking at it that it wasn't a huntsman, but thought at first it could be a wolf spider. Well she has it in an old superworm container with a piece of paper towel for a...

    Centruroides hentzi

do you have any kind of black light? When I lived in southern CA, the pet store where I bought crickets sold me an inexpensive black light that was like a real small flashlight. He used them when he would stay in a motel to shine on the bedding. He found all kinds of gross stains that glowed...

2 People Dead After Swarms of Venomous Spiders Invade Indian Town

The latest news on this that I saw has a pic with it of what looks like a young hairy tarantula, like maybe a chilobrachy type tarantula. They said the spiders are still unidentified and could be a new species. I suspect its a known species that true people who are knowledgeble of tarantulas...

    last p. imperator passed away

So, do most Emporer scorpions only live like 5 yrs? I guess I didn't realise having one for only 4 or 5 yrs was not that unusual. I have never had one of the truly large ones, thought they being older adults they wouldn't last that long. Maybe the ones I have had died isn't that bad after all...

    Good with everything...EXCEPT P. Imperator

I feel for you. Have been Keeping tarantulas for over 15 yrs, and scorpions a little less then that. I have not had much luck with Emporers. I have done the under gravel thing to hold moisture and all. Only thing I have not tried is using a plastic top or film. I've been reluctant to try them...

    B.smithi or B.Emilia. Can't decide??? Opinions

My experience with both is that the B. emilia was more docile and not as much a hair kicker. I raised both from slings. Got them at Petco yrs ago when they were selling slings. Both of mine turned out to be girls. My B. smithi was absolutely beautiful, but very nervous and once kicked all her...

    Chewbaca the curly hair

Love the name, lol. Curly hairs are the best tarantulas to start out with. I have a female that I've raised from a little sling and had for years. She is so calm and easy to hold. She poses for the camera I swear.

    P. liosoma found dead

Well the LQ has a different type clips on her tank top, and my A bicolor is small enough to be in a little critter keeper her on my computer desk. I've been keeping tarantulas and scorpions more then 13 yrs and I guess I am lucky this is the first time this has happened. Thanks for the replys...

    P. liosoma found dead

I am feeling really sad today. I had an adult P. liosoma, and apparently my daughter's kitten dug him out of his tank and I found him dead under a throw rug in the room where his tank was. I had it in an aquarium with a screen lid with locking clips. Apparently I didn't have the clips secure...

Why is my bicolor not getting into its shelter?

I have a juvenile one that is often out in the open. He is small so I have a smaller piece of cork bark in with him. He hides just his head underneath most the time when he is not in the open. He is more active then my death stalker and A.austrailis, I guess because he is still young.

Adult Female Nhandu Chromatus acting strange

I have a C Chromatus that I think is now elderly. I traded her with someone several yrs ago. She used to enjoy burrowing, digging like crazy, webbing up her aquarium. I lived in NJ 5 yrs or more with her, moved to CA for a yr and a half, then moved again to Mississisippi. She is tired of moving...

    Getting into scorpions?

My first scorpion was a "desert hairy" and I loved him! He was an adult, and lived 4 yrs. You will often find scorpions don't live as long as tarantulas, thats what kept me from getting any at first. I have had the most success with the "hot" scorpions. The desert ones being the easiest. I love...

New to the Forum with a new friend!

What a great, easy find! Man, I am envious. I know they have this where I live in Mississippi, but I have not had any success looking. With the colder weather coming down here, might be hard to find another, but sometimes people on the boards have them for sale in the sale section. Just keep...

    Honduran Curly Hair

I have a female one of these I raised from a sling. She was a freebie from "Swifts". Out of all the tarantulas I have and have raised, I consider this one the very best beginner T for anyone. Way far better then any Rosie and they should be common as pets in stores. This is the one we handle if...

    a. australis or l. quinquestriatus?

I have had both Androctunus and L. Quins. My A. A. died of old age, and I have a little A. bicolor, P. transviculus, and one 5 yr old L. Quin. The most active are the baby bicolor and P. trans, and my L. Quin. I like them all very much and agree with Hendersoniana, eventually you will have both...

    P. trans scorpling

there weren't any crickets in there lived, he killed and ate them all in a day (tiny crickets that I put in one at a time). When I ovserved him not eating, stopped putting them because I thought a molt was coming up. His tail is much thicker now (was quite skinny before). How long do you usually...
