I use an old snake rack system for my Ts. I was into snake husbandry for many years and switched to Ts about 5 years ago. I use the racks and they have worked well. They are thermastatically controlled so I can keep the temps where needed.
I prefer to purchase CB whenever possible for the same reasons moricollins stated. I'm not a tree-hugger nor do I believe in raping the earth. Balance seems to accomplish the most good.
We have a large Maine Coon cat who doesn't pay any attention to the T's as long as those little active crickets aren't in the enclosure. :D She is really attracted to their fast movements. She will also wait while I get crickets out of the tub and if one gets away it becomes a cat snack. I'm...
We all vary on how often we feed and what we feed slings. I usually do 1-2 crickets a week for my slings. Some (my pokies and P. pulcher's) are voracious and I usually feed them more. I don't like to power feed but I'm not against those who do. I think most Ts find minimal food in their natural...
It has been my experience that most slings are generally more nervous than their adult counterparts. I believe it is needed for them to survive in the wild.
I've pulled several through keeping them warm and humid. I went several years without a single incident both shipping and receiving and now this year I've had 2 situations with orders I've placed and one that I shipped. Go figure! Good luck!
Mine also have been relatively calm and easy to work with. None have exhibited any extreme defensive behavior. Now I do have a P. murinus or two.... ;)
If it is a first Pokie I would suggest an ornata . They can have a little attitude compared to some of the other Pokies but in my experience they aren't as "delicate" as the rufilata . I keep my rufilata a tad cooler. I prefer them because of their coloring which is different from the regalis...
I have a 4.5" B. emilia and she never burrows even though she could if she wanted to. Mine just hangs out and sometimes uses her half log. They are very nice and colorful Ts. They are a good choice. :)
Congrats on the nice looking Ts! You can't go wrong with your choices for first Ts. I have a good sized female curly that is an awesome T. She is very impressive to those who haven't seen many Ts. I think they are under-rated because of being so common in the hobby but a large female in...
Very normal behavior for most Ts. Just laying down a feeding web. It's fascinating to watch quite a few of them, each in their own container dancing this way. Don't worry. :)
