First ever sling - some further questions

GUYS PLEASE. The enclosure is fine, I'm fine with it being buried, I just want to know how to know when the humidity is too high! The enclosure i have is a very similar volume to those deli cups, it's just a different shape, and the substrate is only 1 - 1.5" deep. I don't mind that he's...

First ever sling - some further questions

This enclosure is actually much smaller than it appears. It's 10cm on its longest side, and the holes are 1.75mm so that would have to be one desperate escapee :p and he is about 2cm long so I'm not worried about an escape effort. The main reason I'm asking is because I haven't moistened the...

First ever sling - some further questions

Hi guys, I posted here a week or two ago for advice about my first tarantula, a G. pulchra sling and I have a few questions I've had trouble answering. I got this spider on the 9th August and, as expected, it's burrowed itself away (silly me made the hole in the middle of the enclosure instead...

First ever sling arriving on Friday and I'm super nervous

He finally arrived! :nailbiting: Sorry for the potato quality photo but I was shaking because I was so nervous about dropping him or having him run away... I just want to say thank you to everyone in this thread who helped me out with getting the enclosure perfect and other dumb questions I...

    Lost sling. How to find?

I'm willing to put money on it being so well burrowed into the substrate that it fooled you into thinking it did a Houdini :D

How do you guys prefer to store substrate?

What's your preferred method of drying? Mine has been in an open tub for days and if anything it looks even more damp!

How do you guys prefer to store substrate?

Do you keep your substrate dry? Do you have to keep it dry? Keep it stored damp with ventilation and let it dry on its own? (in the case of unused rehydrated coco fibre for example) Does this attract pests? Maybe for some critters you would introduce 'friendly' bugs/bacteria? Thoughts? J

Moving my tarantula abroad, help please!

You'll need to check the law with Romanian customs. Taking your spider out of the UK is not a problem of course, you only need to know the law for the country you're travelling to and the countries you'll be travelling through, since you'll be driving. This link may be of some help...

Are there certain behaviours that can help distinguish a male from a female Tarantula?

I've been wondering about this for a while. Does a spider's behaviour or habits give any hint on the possible sex? Thanks, J Edit: Aside from sperm webbing of course.

First ever sling arriving on Friday and I'm super nervous

Thanks for the advice, I found a pack of old single use pipettes in the cupboard and cut the end of the bulb part off. It's about 1cm x 2cm so doesn't hold much water but for now I guess it'll do. I also had to push it into the substrate a bit because of the rounded bottom but I think it works...

First ever sling arriving on Friday and I'm super nervous

I don't have any Lego or anything like that but I'll look around. Is everything else ok? I put a little bit of wetter substrate at the bottom so the sling can dig if it needs more moisture (seen on Tom Moran's channel).

    Today in the Spider Room?

Setting up a space today for my first spiders, and I stacked some tupperware boxes all wonky and they cascaded onto my head and left a small scratch. Pretty damn tame compared to most of the stuff I'm reading in this thread but it's good to know that the worst is still ahead :wideyed:

First ever sling arriving on Friday and I'm super nervous

So the spider arrives tomorrow and I just set up the enclosure. It's 10cm x 8cm x 6cm and the coco fibre is moist but not wet. No water dish because the tub is so small but I will keep the far corner moist. Does this look ok? It's my first ever attempt so if I need to make any changes please...

First ever sling arriving on Friday and I'm super nervous

Thanks a lot for the reply, I'll probably get some waxworms or something the next time I'm in the shop if the crickets all die like you said, but I'd like to start a small colony of the Lateralis roach since I hear so many good things about them and you just cofirmed it for me - cheers.

    Pain and Tarantulas

Your subjective emotions should not impact efforts to improve society, however 'apathetic' you deem them to be. I care for those people in a way that demands long term solutions, not short term tears. I've been nothing but reasonable, I simply stated my opinions, and you felt the need to jump...

    Pain and Tarantulas

You're conflating science with simply being human. And you're reading too much into what I said. For what it's worth I think Dr. Tyson is correct, we are too emotional and quick to jump on bandwagons when we should be calmly and objectively assessing the situation at hand in order to proceed in...
